Right, and now Nessie's morality makes sense: he isn't playing vs Cat or Cordelia or any of that, because to him, they simply aren't PLAYERS. He's playing vs the gods. The Intercessor is the most direct agent of the gods, and hence in the battle of "gods vs mortals" they are on opposite sides. The terrifying part is... well, in some sense the entire premise everyone lives their lives on may be flawed. The so called "Wager" is a belief, a part of the mythos, a religion, but we haven't seen any evidence that it is real. For all we know the Demons ARE the Gods. We literally know *nothing* about the "Outside", and Nessie is the only one who has shown an interest (and Bard has shown perhaps *some* knowledge), and... it's all pretty messed up. I DO love this tour through the great civilisations of ancient times. Places in the story we haven't visited for ages, but just the shear size of the contintent allowing all these many adventures... where even the villian is the hero of their own story.

I have to admit I was *very* worried Neshamah was going to eat the sparrow or something. o_______o

Spencer

Now I'm kind of rooting for Neshamah! He and Cat have a lot in common, or at least he did back when he was alive.

Scott Schluter

Dude. EE. You rock. That is all.

Nice chracter background! You always amaze me, with logically built up sheer idiocy of your characters since they are “human” this is way too realistic…

Dorian Grizzle

That was rather a beautiful beat to end it on, considering the destination. Rather poignant.

Or that was the reason Neshamah was able to take control over him specifically

I much prefer the current answer over simply lasting to Last Dusk

Wait, where's magic satellites from?

erraticerrata

I've considered it for the docket, but I'm not sure how invested people would get when 99% of the characters would be previously unheard of.

I'm glad I joined the Patreon and read this. And it gives a terrifying sense and logic to the Dead King's amoral sociopathy: Good and Evil - the 'only choice that matters' - doesn't matter at all when, at the end, the board is merely wiped clean and a new game is set up. Another thought that occurs to me, given ancient Titans had magic satellites. The Gnomes live in orbital space stations, don't they?

Kel

I think her whole plan with the Accords is to avoid this by still giving the gods a way to have their game and wager - but after reading this I don’t expect that to quite work out. How do you convince them not to just pack up this board game once it’s “over”, in favor of a shiny new one? Is there a new question that can get their attention, something that can only happen in this world?

Aelia Aeldyne

EE This was absolutely glorious Thank you.

Also, what's the chances of an ancient Drow civilization chapter EE? Pretty please?

Oh my. I'd thought Demons were Lovecraftian, and Neshamah had figured if some stuff exists independently of Creation he could do the same...rather more worrying to have them be from (at least one) previous Wager. I wonder if each Demonic Hell marks a separate instance? Are the "winners" getting immortalised or is it the leftovers of the losers?

Sengachi

Holy shit, does Nemesah intend to outlast the end of this Creation, and so continue on unfettered into the next one?

Amit Gupta

Cat *might* be coming to endanger creation by answering the question between Above and Below. I mean if Cat settles the Wager then there is no point to letting Creation exist..right? Gods Above still have a weapon in the form of Warden of the West but looking at Cordelia and the White Knight, I don't see it going well in their favour. Cordelia outright despises Chosen. There are places besides Calernia on Creation but not sure how much that weighs in favour of continued existence.

Alright boys and girls let’s have a clean round 2 okay? You can use what you have but no more uncontrolled corruption thingies, no premature world ending, and we slap a couple of extra rules on things so we don’t get a repeat of last time. Just leave the proof of concept there but make the new ones finite, that way they can be more interesting but they don’t stick around to muck things up. Let’s do big dudes versus lizards first though I want to see that

Garrett Therkorn

...So Masego and the Dead King are worried about the same thing. That reality could be stripped out from them in an instant, if the gods will it. Is this foreshadowing a teamup?

Young Youghurt

If there are no gods around then he can only go after their creation. Maybe somehow usurp it or spend it on his ultimate apotheosis?

Michael Brewer

So, he wants to be beyond the gods, does he? That's his true motivation? I wonder why he bothers invading the rest of the continent then.
