Joe Rachman

Maybe her terms originally were for northerners, not all slaves?

It’s a daisy chain Freed crews from those ships get paid from the potential proceeds of sale from future captured vessels

""" “There’s one flaw in your terms,” Izel told her. “One word that shouldn’t be there.” Maryam frowned at him, but the tinker’s gaze caught on Hooks. He smiled, quietly, at what he found there. “Ah, but you have it,” Izel said.  “That exceptions are how it starts. I worry for nothing.” Hooks nodded at him, slowly, and Song was not the only one to feel lost. """ I feel like i get what he means, kinda. But i also cant concretize it properly. Do anyone have more coherent thoughts?

I'm actually a little confused as to why Song is acting like this is a secret betrayal on her part. She outright told them back in chapter 13 that she needed the book that might be in the Scholomance library so that she could protect her sister, this is absolutely something Maryam already knows.

I just happened to be going through some chapters in book 2 and came across the chapter that the Turron lady Wen likes is. (Great chapter on its own.) It's Chapter 23, for anyone who wants to go back.

"How could she tell Maryam that as much as her friend had been using them, Song had been using her as a shield?" Oh. Ok lol. Better not have a talk about that before the ink is dry, don't want to jeopardize that sweet, sweet payout. Super convenient (Song's very favorite word!) Good reminder that for all the focus has been on Maryam's relationship problems Song and Tristan aren't exactly superfriends themselves. Song doesn't want to own up to using her friends. Tristan doesn't want to own up to his issues vs the orels are self-centered and borderline toddler mentality. Of the three of them Maryam is the least selfish and most conscientious about the feelings of her friends, so she kind of ends up eating crow for all three of them. The upside is that it seems like this won't just even the scales but flip the relationship entirely. Depending no how much money they make out of it they could end up more dependant on her than the other way around. Tristan would probably be okay with it, but I think Song will HATE that. Also did Song actually know that Wen was on a booty call? If so that's fucked up. Seven to noon should be respected as Wen time, not Latest Thirteenth Bullshit time. Also he should probably get a nice fat finder's fee if not his own shares.
