Flaming Cat

“The Watch could have easily forced the Izcalli border lords, the Caishen militia or the raja of Kurin to withdraw from the region if they did not wish to – much less all three forces at once. It is missing a “not” between “Watch” and “could”.

Darryl Greensill

“None are free unless all are free”

A common enemy to bind from without giving time for the work of binding from within indeed. Each member of the 13th isn’t wrong in their perspective yet they are not right either. I like how this was highlighted in the to the question posed by the professor. Each member of the group has a captivating and sympathetic backstory yet their lives have shaped and conditioned their perspectives. Natural allies are faced with seemingly gaping chasms to bridge immediately or be destroyed. It’s up to Song to thread this needle as captain ultimately it’s likely collective their survival is in her hands. With authority comes greater responsibility and scrutiny along with less room to maneuver or especially failure. Song is gifted with sight and that’s her blind spot with Tristian what she cannot see she imagines based on her preconceptions and that’s where she is most fallible. She is a republician and yet comes from a patrician family she understands this truth as she mentioned it before but it hasn’t truly sunk in perhaps. Though it’s understandable with her curse that interpersonal relationships are a blind spot her experience is limited and she has in a way given up expecting to overcome it. All the pieces for success and or failure are in place each member having an alliance and an understanding with two others while clashing with the one who most closely resembles their personality. I suppose with my perspective focusing in on the group with Songs struggle highlighted their individual struggles may prove more the dangerous if they succeed in their immediate challenges.

eeee

The Malani slavery actually reminds me of European/American slave trade. Lots of people still argue that American slave trade wasn't as bad as it's made out to be because Africans had slave trade too and sold slaves to them. Response is same as Song's: the scale and cruelty was on a whole other level.

The 13th have some powerful contacts. Very interesting to see how Song can can use hers to manipulate people. If she ever starts trusting Tristan, they will be a powerful combo.

One of my favorite things about this author is how clearly they convey interpersonal dramas and make it interesting and give it climaxes. It’s something I very rarely notice in everyday life.

What is Watch’s HR department doing? How come they don’t have annual mandatory Sensitivity courses for all personnel? That should have been the 1st thing any new member is doing :-) [calms down and returns to the HR’s mandatory sensitivity training]

Sounds a bit like Bellerophon tbh xD.

Hierarch is that you?

The slogan has me warming to the Tianxi

I imagine Tristan will be at the very least extremely disconcerted when he finds out Song can see Fortuna...

Joe Rachman

Yup Song coming into her own. Like a good manager she will now arrange a group bonding exercise - brutally making an example of the 49th...

Mag1cM

Evil Mastermind Fortuna will never not be funny to me.

Thanks for the chapter! I'm starting to like Song more and more
