"Both requests were *suborned* to the necessity of maintaining her cover" From dictionary.com, "suborned" means "bribe or induce (someone) unlawfully or secretly to perform some misdeed or to commit a crime." It does not actually mean "to make subordinate/secondary," which is what *I* thought it meant ever since I heard it, and only learned last week that I've been mistaken. Funnily enough, given what Angharad's up to, it's still kind of in the right neighborhood. Very fun chapter, love the coachwoman's rapid changes of opinion on Angharad and more looks at the future of her contract. Also, remembering that Maryam had a key role to play in Angharad's survival via contract testing is the kind of thing I love about Angharad's character. Those two will be VERY scary together if/when they become real friends.

"Would that Song was truly the Lord Rector’s mistress, for surely she would not tolerate such abominable traveling conditions." Caught this on the second read through, everyone wants them to get together but Song haha.

Mark W

She's also pretending not to be a watchwoman, so acting like one is still a red flag

George R

Awesome chapter

Blind

This chapter really demonstrates what a crazy badass Angharad is. "Not to worry, Angharad thought. When a coach was sent from the Eirenos manor tomorrow, she would depart far ahead of any rumor spreading." Angie is about to be the hottest bachelorette at the hunting lodge.

Sean Boyd

He also had a gut wound and is gurgling. He probably had s kinder fate than the mercy of the law in that case.

Andrew Duan

There’s the old Angie from book 1. Little bit of spice there! Now Tristan need to convince her to help him kill the traitors in exchange for his help exploring the layers.

Dominic Corbin

Definitely could have used some more questions. I sort of got the idea she ended the interrogation because Katina came over.

Dominic Corbin

@Gwennafran I absolutely agree with everything you said, but Angharad is not dispelling her reputation by having a puzzle and beating a solution out of it. She is both smarter and dumber than people think she is, because she's complex and people can only see surfaces. Love to see what she'll do next!

H.W. Robots

Just a little. Usual is an hour at a slow read and this was 35min ish. There is variation in the chapter lengths from week to week. I think it comes down to the writer's inspiration for the week and the particular plot point of the chapter.

Gwennafran

Song: I better use a really obvious name so even Angharad can figure it out. Angharad: Oh, that's Song's handwriting. There must be something hidden in this hat. (ignores the name completely) Also, honestly, beating the answer out of the (now broken) puzzle is a valid out of the box approach. If you don't need the puzzle to survive.

Jacob Burton-Edwards

Yeah, but what penalty does banditry fetch here? Might be she just executed him for an offence which should have given him prison time.

Musclerelaxant

“Angharad was no deep intriguer” for real like a possible hidden compartment?? Let me beat the shit out of it with a gigantic musket

Brendan Murphy

She was technically in her rights as a watchwoman, I think?

Jacob Burton-Edwards

She's so used to being the law she didn't bother to ask what the law around here was.

MapForge

Also the chapter seemed to have been shorter than usual?

MapForge

I think it was a great glimpse at that she is a coldblooded executioner, when she thinks she is in the right. Her as a character I like, but found the coach drivers reaction also realistic towards such swift killing.

bolsh

For the best that Angharad iced him, really. If he made it back to the Magistrate, whoever hired him would probably want to clean up loose ends, and if they find out that he told Angharad that it was a ploy... well, better to preserve some element of surprise this way

Joe Rachman

Angharad you need to learn to at least interrogate key prisoners more thoroughly before executing them... I want to know who came up with the wierd steal all their clothes plot?

awakeatdawn

love that taking away angharads martial skill means she developed her contract abilities even more to compensate, it'll really be something when she wields both

Aguido Horatio Davis

Skiritai.
