Or it's the Stripe officer who wanted Tristan executed for the destruction he caused on the island.

It will be hard to tell until the chapter where Maryam fraks around and finds out.
Dominic Corbin
We can hope Tristan was able to redirect the Yellow Earth coup, but somehow I doubt they are so easily influenced in their plans.

I agree this part is confusingly written, and seems to need another editing pass. I would think the intent is that Song glimpsed the soul and Maryam is glad that Song confirmed it for her, and that knowledge is allowing Maryam to design her ritual in a more stable manner. However it does not read that way as written currently. The rest I found quite strong and readable!

Welcome back!

I'm wondering again if Abuela leaked that report to the Ivory Library to send them after Tristan as a training exercise

Should the proof of the stable soul of the parasite said by Song? This phrase would read better if it was.|||“As opposed to the nothing I currently hold?” Maryam mocked. “Even if I got only a hundredth it would still be worth it. And it won’t come to that, anyway. The shade has a soul, it’s stable and I can make it even more stable. That will stem some of the bleeding.” “So it does have a soul,” Song said. As she had glimpsed that day, when it saved her life. Maryam curtly nodded. “Thank you for informing me,” she visibly forced herself to say. “That knowledge made my ritual much more feasible.”

Six + Death = Oduromai's six wives that he killed so that they join him as spirits? (chapter 49)

Waiit a moment... Oh god oh fuck

I dont understand how the thirteen can be so calm here, i would be praying right about now that tristan hasnt somehow found another long forgotten god trapped in a prison trying to escape

Also the servant who saluted Angharad is a Chekov's Gun. A Krypteia officer entertaining themselves with a tell that Angie won't notice? Perhaps Captain Traore?

I think Hage is fine. He knows shit's about to hit the fan so has pulled up stakes to better move behind the scenes.

I'm betting a half-sister or orphan sacrificed and shaped into the cauldron against her will.

Once you repeatedly slam an enemy's face into a wall, I think the concern with "antagonizing the enemy " is somewhat past. Better to keep Imani on her toes or better deny the use of them!

The characters and the readers have been worrying about him for so long that I wonder if we're going to get some kind of subversion - like instead of finding Tristan in mortal danger, it'll turn out that he pulled off some Bugs Bunny gambit and got the Yellow Earth to target the Golden Ram conspirators instead of the Rector.

A small detail, but interesting - Song thinks Maryam may not have washed her hair since Tristan left. The narrative hasn't given much direct focus to how Tristan's absence (and now the lack of scheduled messages or any other contact) have affected Maryam, but considering he seems to be her best friend at this point, it makes perfect sense that her worries for his safety are yet another reason she's been extra stressed and is getting reckless. That's even without the aether entity bringing up Maryam's repressed attraction to Tristan shortly before he left...

We have not seen Tristan for too long. I have the feeling that when he reappears, it will be a second right after Asphodel goes down in flames.

It's not like Angharad knows any of what Song is up to. Last few chapters really showing that the Brigade isn't pulling in the same direction and needs to be pulled into shape once Song gets her captaincy act together.

Very glad you’re back!

Not a great move on Angharad's part. She learned little of value and further antagonised Imani. Especially pointless when Song just dealt with the other side of the plot. More worrying is Hage's disappearance. It seems unlikely that the Yellow Earth could kill or capture an ancient devil like him, but maybe Locke and Keys are responsible. It also means that if Yellow Earth caught Tristan (which seems likely given his absence) there will be a delay before anyone notices he's missing.

If that turns out to be her mother's soul stuck in there...

Great chapter. But oof wrapping my head back around all the different conspiracies and players again is tricky

The moment the clock turned to 12 AM, I reloaded the page and there was the new chapter! (Somehow I was quicker than the e-mail notification).
