Tristan A

I'm now reading this months later so maybe the reveal has already happened. But, I was thinking Lock and Key are after the skimmer.

primus

Or Hage knows or at least suspects and lied to Tristan.

Dominic Corbin

Devil has its priorities in line is all I can say

York

Theory: Evander invited Locke and Key to eat the sealed god when it gets released.

Sakkas! <3 You glorious cursed magpie! <3

Joe Rachman

I span a whole theory a while back of two Odysseans. The original which is The Hated One that got sealed. But after it was sealed some old trads still worship something called The Odyssean, so that belief combined with Asphodel's turbulent aether creates a sort of mini new version which is a bit less dark. As the original starts to leak out it enslaves/subsumes it's weak successor.

Spicier Theory: The best candidate for the puppet master behind both coups (and probably the Ecclesiast) is Evander. He has the best access to knowledge about the Odyssean, and a good motive- he’s pulling a Dread-Emperor-Traitorous-style false coup(s) to eliminate his opposition.

Theory: Anaidon is a member of the OG cult of the Golden Ram, and is sympathetic to the Ram, not the Odyssean. That would explain nicely why he has a boon, and why he defected to the merchants side: the nobles carved up his god. Also, it would mean both coups are cults of the Golden Ram, which is funny.

I’m wondering what the Watch/Krypteria’s game is. They absolutely want either control or strong influence over the Skimmer manufacturing. The plots going on all around are volatile enough they might destroy everything that’s valuable. There’s also evidence of a forgotten extremely powerful god breaking its seal. I can’t believe they’re just leaving it to the kids to handle at this point - wonder if we’ll see it when stuff starts blowing up

Pteromys Momonga

I love Hage. "They tried to kill me, which was whatever, but they went after my CAT!"

Pteromys Momonga

They did help save his life by alerting Song to the assassins. I'm not sure if that means their agenda involves his survival, or if they just didn't want him dead at that moment. I, too, am very curious about whether/why he invited them. Interesting that the assassins were probably hired by Hector Anaidon (H.A.), and now Locke and Keys are waiting in the building where Anaidon is about to go.

Pteromys Momonga

If the basis for Hage's conclusion is that the rumors started up at a convenient time and that Locke and Keys are going after something else, then that doesn't mean there isn't a forge. If devils have some kind of forge-sense and he doesn't sense one in Tratheke, then maybe Angharad found a decoy forge or the Left-Hand House didn't have a good enough description to know that what she found was something else. I'm leaning toward the former (Hage is drawing a reasonable but incorrect conclusion), although the latter would have a lot of dramatic irony.

Pteromys Momonga

I'm still not sure. The fact that Cleon has had a contract with the Odyssean since before the cult started doing its thing makes me think they're actually following the Hated One, who subsumed the Odyssean somehow. Cleon said his god had been acting different lately. We know that gods can be changed by how they're worshipped; I wonder if the Hated One managed to piggyback onto the Odyssean due to the cult's narrative about the latter.

Joe Rachman

Ok so the two creepy guests the guard mentioned, surely Locke and Key? If so what are they up to? Invited by the Rector (why? to do what? how did he know of them and reach them?) but also maybe involved the revolution for inscrutable reasons.

Joe Rachman

Or the rumour is a distraction as to Locke and Key's true intention, made more believable by the fact of there being a forge is actually true

joie01

tristan chapters are all Ws

Ezekiel

Didnt Angharad find the infernal forge? she even described it to the Left Hand House agent. which means either the Left Hand House doesn't actually care about it and lied to her, or Hage doesn't know. I'm leaning towards Hage being right because after all, we have no idea what an infernal forge actually looks like.

EndlessTurtle

I like that Tristan mostly makes his own luck, with power only there to fill in missing pieces

Poop McScoop

I'm inclined to believe that Odyssean is one of the original or most preferred names of the god, given that Locke and Key use it.

Poop McScoop

I don't think the goal of the plots is necessarily a successful uprising; instead Odyssean is probably trying to create another Ataxia for some reason. Perhaps the bitter three way fighting in the palace would create a new layer that would undo the lock and squeeze the prison open. Perhaps the death would charge his reaper persona.

Draken09

I'd put huge quotes around "The Odyssean", but it does seem to be something to that effect, yes.

Draken09

I've heard of bags of holding, but a Birtal (Bird-portal) is new to me.

StrollingEye

I do enjoy Tristan chapters. And Hage chapters. The ability to teleport objects via regurgitation is quite the power. What will Sakkas do to reveal his great and terrible ppwer next?

Markos El-Far

Sakkas is an elder god of unimaginable horrors. He must be. Also, Locke and Key are big enough threats to send Hage into hiding. They may be going for the Odessyan

Joe Rachman

So The Odyssean is behind it all?
