Quick note, Shinobi don't sense everyone the same way the Z fighters can. Only specific characters or techniques can make it so chakra can be sensed. Other than that, unless some has heightened senses (sight, smell, hearing, or even ninjustu like Zabuza's mist) Shinobi go at it the traditional way, knowing exactly where your opponent is or finding where they hide before they get you.

The way the writing proceeds through this part actually makes me wonder if Shukaku was intended originally to be a tailed beast, or if this was a decision made later as the manga progressed.

It is so crazy now back then watching this part having no idea that Garas demon was just another tailed beast and the one tails shukaku. Before watching it Naruto always seemed like a kid show way back when, ha…it is NOT a kid show lol.

True she may be surprised. I think she has pretty well accepted that Sarutobi will die at this point but I wonder if she is thinking Orochimaru will die as well or if she is thinking someone else will fight him after? I'm interested to see what her reaction is to the resolution of this section.

I bet madison has absorbed the dragonball format by now... Meaning she might subconsciously expect gaara and orochimaru to die at the end of this saga or very soon after. Just like zabuza died as well. I think she will be surprised that gaara will become good.
