Exactly. There are many things that get retconned in later episodes... especially about the past. To make the timeline of certain events work out... other events had to be changed.

I love the buildup around Orochimaru. He’s one of my favorite antagonist characters. The gap in power between Orochimaru and Kakashi is probably comparable to the difference between Beerus and Goku when they first met 🤣 at least as an analogy. Not literally. But the feeling you get from the destroyer God and Orochimaru are similar.
