Animated GIF vs Static stickers
🕑 Added 2025-01-30 03:17:09 +0000 UTCIn recent years, I have focused on updates rather than creating new sticker packs. In the past, I mainly worked on Marine life, Freshwater fish, crustaceans, bugs, and birds, but recently I have been drawing many reptiles and mammals, also plants... so I'm thinking about to create a new sticker pack.
In my experience, GIFs are always popular, but Static is also being used a lot these days. Since each has its advantages and disadvantages, I would like to hear your opinions.
1. Animated GIF
Long working time -> Small number of stickers
First sticker pack has 24 stickers
Future updates : 1~4 stickers
I upload all GIFs to Giphy, so you can search for pikaole+animal names on social media and use them.
2. Static sticker
Short working time -> More stickers
First sticker pack has 48 stickers
Future updates : 10 ~ 20 or more stickers
Various animals : Some can be difficult to make into animation (If it has a complex pattern or shape...)
For iMessage (in pikaole's bird app), I created 100 static images over a period of 4 years from 2020 to 2024, and recently did an update that turned some of them into animations.

Yes, I do use iMessage (with the friends that have it). I was thinking of something like the birds pack, which I haven’t updated because I don’t want the animations

I get what you mean! Adding animated from static is only possible in iMessage, do you use iMessage? I was originally considering adding animated to all of them, but yes, maybe I should leave some of them static..!

Yeah! I got the same feedback. So I'm going to try not to delete static from the next update. - So in the next update, I plan to add static stickers separately instead of removing them.

I prefer static because when I send animated stickers from my iPhone, they don’t show up as animated for android phone users. But the static sticker always works!

I personally cannot use and will actively avoid animated gifs for accessibility reasons, so I avoid updating anything that would introduce animations I can’t turn off. If a pack included animated gifs from the beginning I wouldn’t use it. I think if it’s not too much work, it would be nice to have a “static-only” version, even if it includes fewer things, if more packs are going to have gifs.

Haha, I totally get it. If there was content about an animal I like, I would choose it regardless of whether it was animated or static. I'm glad we like the same animal 🥰

I think I know exactly what you mean. When I make animations, I have to watch them over and over again, which is tiring on the eyes and draining on the mind. so I think it's the same when you use it for work or chatting. Fortunately, I always upload to Telegram in static mode! Thank you!

I'm a huge fan of your static stickers, I always use them on telegram. I share the same opinion as another commentor earlier, that I find the animations too distracting personally to use in a chat. Even though I love your animations.

I love both. I use WhatsApp and always search occassionly for gifs and sticker, Dependance on the Situation :)

Thank you for your valuable feedback! I had the same request when I updated the bird sticker pack. So when I update the animated version, I plan to add the static stickers back instead of deleting them.

I just don’t use the animated ones, but it’s fine if they’re there in the pack. Like if you did the static ones and later animated them, for me personally it would be nice to still have access to the static

Thanks for the feedback! So in your case, if some animated GIFs in a Static sticker pack are updated, do you stop using the entire pack? Or do you only use the static ones from that pack?

I adore the Marine Life stickers so much and they’ve quickly become my favorite thing to spam people with. That said, I’m fine with either! The static ones are super cute too and I love them all the same.

All your stickers are wonderful, but I personally only ever really use static stickers. Maybe it’s an ADHD thing but, unless they’re really subtle, I find looping animations to be really distracting. At work using Slack I had to disable all animations in the accessibility settings because it was way too much for my brain. 😅

I voted for GIFs because I don't use iMessage since I have an Android phone, so I can't access those sticker packs :(
