I'm super excited, You put a reflecting on his rex google with what he is seeing and still get his expression. You could add some shadow to make it look even darker. But it's already so good!!! You made a good choice to showcase, you story and drawing skills.
In the comic where Brutus shares his puppy photo with Pixie, he had the tone that his handler had passed on. I fear this is where it happens.

GUD BOI! As a dog handler myself, I think this is important to arise awareness about the matter. It's cold and harsh but it's reality and it happens more than people think, to have missions where things go wrong, even with k9s. Never above you, never below you, always beside you. Never forget those who serve, even if they have 4 legs

Im actually looking forewards to a sombre exploration of brutus' background in the military. Hopefully it'll open up some possibilities for more serious toned comics in the future.
