Animals see color quite fine. Not all colors though. The joke is that the artist rarely colors in the background.

Just changing the line color wouldn't really be coloring it in though. I personally think that would look kinda strange. I have considered having fully colored backgrounds, but I decided a while ago that it's best for me to just stick with blank minimalist backgrounds. It makes the characters stand out much better, it's easier on the eyes, and, of course, it takes less time.

Cute. Ngl though, it would be nice to see a little color in your backgrounds. And you wouldn't even necessarily have to do any more work. The little spikes you already draw to show the grass? Use green lines instead on black/grey. The tree you're klepto squirrel was living in a couple comics ago? Use brown lines when you're drawing the tree instead.
