I would guess because the allergy is to the dander, which is dead skin. (I'm honestly not sure what the fur has to do with it.)

Like some others have said: Actually, the sphinx cat is NOT hypoallergenic. Look it up. It is their dander that causes a reaction, and they shed more because they don't have the fur to catch it.

Unfortunately, they are *not* hypoallergenic. They produce just as much dander as normal, I mean, furry, cats.

When I was younger I looked into them and found out that they Require regular bathing otherwise the oil that would naturally be absorbed by their fur normally, could leave greasy spots on things! (And they need to get the excess off for hygiene too) I still love how they look.

They're not exactly hypoallergenic, they still have dander which is usually the main allergen, or even their saliva. Some people with allergies do have less reactions with these cats though 🤷‍♀️ They've got great personalities and are still quite cute. It's very cool to watch them move and see their bodies at work without fur blocking your view.
