I like giant dogs more than I do cats. However, small dogs look ugly to me, so I’d prefer a cat over them.

In all seriousness, a feline is stronger than a dog of equal weight. Even if they brought up wolves, it wouldn't help their argument if a lone wolf VS so much as a puma ends poorly for the canid more often than not. Strength, agility, independence, ability to survive falls from frankly absurd heights (thank you, Casual Geographic), I'm on the cats side here even without my personal bias.

Well, domestic housecats are the number two ecoterrorist species under humans. They're such efficient hunters, here in the US they've nearly wiped out many songbird species.
