Portrait Drawing Course Term 1, Lesson 5: Boundaries
🕑 Added 2023-04-15 20:20:39 +0000 UTCThis video is Lesson 5 of the 'Learning to see' term - in this lesson we'll take our first look at tonal shapes, with an exploration of hard, soft and lost tonal edges and tonal gradients. I'll show you how you can map those tones out in a drawing, before elaborating on tonal value. As always, to get full benefit from the course, watch one video per month, practicing for at least 2 hours per week over the course of that month, before moving on to the next lesson.
You will need:
Your drawing medium of choice
Something to draw on
Your assignments are:
Make 1 continuous line drawing focusing on tonal shapes (10 mins+)
Make a tonal map / block in (45 mins +)
Optional: Add tonal value to the map (45 mins +)

Thank you for explaining hue, saturation, tone and value in such a clear way. I’m studying this in my degree at the moment and despite having read numerous explanations, watching this is the first time the penny has dropped and I have truly understood the concepts!!

Love the cheeky wink at the start!
