Portrait Drawing Course Term 1, Lesson 6: Distances
🕑 Added 2023-05-23 10:52:55 +0000 UTCThis video is Lesson 6 of the 'Learning to see' term - in this lesson we'll continue to explore tonal shapes, this time tightening up our measurement of distances between points. As always, to get full benefit from the course, watch one video per month, practicing for at least 2 hours per week over the course of that month, before moving on to the next lesson.
You will need:
Your drawing medium of choice
Something to draw on
Your assignments are:
Make 2 blocks-in, one using sight size measuring and the other using comparative measuring (30 mins each)
Make a sight size block ready to add tone next lesson (1 hr +)
Optional: Repeatedly practice block-in

How do I watch the next lesson I saw on this link that it was released in December https://www.drawbrightonnavigator.com/term-1.html#/

Hi Jake Would I need to upgrade to full membership to access lesson 7? Thanks Penny

Are you still planning to develop this course further?
Draw Brighton
Hi Paul, it sure can! It will work most effectively when the tonal shapes are as clear as possible, but could be applied to any. subject.
Paul Shabi
Can any and all of this techniques be applied to the reference material provided here? Excellent content, as always!
Hanna Skalabava
Great! Thanks for your response.

Hi Hanna! We're just preparing the next stage of the course - we have been rather delayed releasing it, but it will be coming out very soon :)
Hanna Skalabava
Hey! Is there perhaps a follow-up to the course available elsewhere?
Draw Brighton
Ofcourse you can Emily! It should be as close to vertical as possible, so that it is (as you say) as close to the viewing plane as possible . It means being very upright as you're drawing, and will often work best standing.
Emily Seccombe
May I ask a question about this lesson? In the sight size process, does your drawing surface have to be near vertical (or at least in the same plan as which you are looking?) Just trying to work out a set up that would keep my drawing surface at a consistent angle! Thanks in advance

Hi Denis, my apologies - we're still having some delays in recording the next 6 lessons of the course while we change over team and prepare for our 2023/24 programme here at Draw. The July and August lessons haven't been recorded yet so we're going to have to jump straight to the September release date - the 7the lesson in this series will be released by September 17th. Thanks so much for your patience and I'm really glad you've enjoyed the lessons so far!
Denis
I really like this course about drawing. But we are actually 8/22 and I can't find the link available for the July and August lessons 7 and 8. Is it possible to have these lessons posted ? Thanks a lot for the good work.
