Just back from Urgent Care with a scary diagnosis...

I swear I'm not a hypochondriac. I am starting to feel like I'm cursed though.
I started having these horribly sharp nerve pains in my left temple, and they would just come out of nowhere, last for about 2 seconds, and felt like I was being shocked with a taser. They started when I woke up, ran a brush through my hair and felt like I was hit by lightening... the skin around my temple and in front of my ear is super painful to the lightest touch. These shocking pains kept happening all day. Daddy was at work downtown but finally I called him crying and he came home and took me to Urgent Care because what I found when I was googling was pretty scary. I knew it was some kind of nerve pain from the electric shock sort of pain I was experiencing.
They diagnosed it as Trigeminal Neuralgia. I had never heard of it before, but Daddy used to work with a woman who had it, and he said they called it "Suicide Disease" because found it so unbearable to live with. That's not what you want to hear when you're already worried... but I just googled that and it's pretty dismal. After reading up on it, it's a long term chronic pain condition. The doctor said that if the medication doesn't effectively get rid of the pain, then I'll need to see a neurosurgeon, and there are surgical options that can help some people.
So I'm sort of just shellshocked at the moment... this just happened TODAY. And now I have this horribly debilitating condition? It seems like a bad dream. They've put me a seizure medication even though I'm not having seizures. Apparently it also helps treat this condition. I guess time will tell if the medication helps or if I continue having pain. He started me on 100mg twice a day, and said I can slowly scale up to a maximum of 400mg twice a day if it's not adequately eliminating the pain.
I want to be clear, I don't share these things with you because I'm looking for sympathy. I just prefer to be very honest about what I'm going through, so you know that I'm not intentionally letting you down, or being lazy and slacking off on my work. Not to say that I'm not lazy, or that I don't slack off. But it's not always me being a lazy fuck! Plus, I suck at keeping secrets, so it's just easier to tell you the truth and that way I don't have to try to keep myself from saying the wrong thing or revealing something accidentally. If it's something I can share with you, then I will. And maybe someone in my audience knows someone who'd dealt with this condition and will have some info to share, who knows?
Anyway, I'm going to see if I can continue work tomorrow night. Which means the Halloween Audio will be a little bit late, but it will still be considered an October release even if the date ticks over to November when it's released. It will be done as soon as I can manage it :)
On a good note, I took the pill about 2 hours ago, and I haven't felt a shock since. So let's hope that continues! But I'm just mentally exhausted after dealing with this all day. So going to rest a while.

Thank you for sharing Candy, must’ve been scared shitless hearing that from your doctor. I really hope that the medication will do most if not all of the heavy lifting for you. But don’t lose heart 2024 will be over soon before long, please keep us updated in the meantime. We’ll be here.

It's always possible. Doctors are trained to say "you have this", not "you have this, with 78% certainty"

Thank you Peppa... I guess I am lucky that it happened now rather than when I am much older and more frail. I'd rather get it under control before then.

I know an elderly woman that works with my mom that has the same issue. She has had the issue for 15+ years, luckily she has a great doctor and an even better husband. I wish you the best Candy. I hope the diagnosis is wrong or medical science comes in clutch to remedy that issue.
