“Are you sure you’re okay?” I asked for the third time, and Dawson nodded stiffly once more. “Dude, I’ve known you for like three hundred years, I know when you’re lying”.

I grimaced as we continued walking. I knew that he was still upset with me about the whole ‘going to my grandma’s’ thing, and the more I thought about it, the worse I felt.

“What am I supposed to do, Ethan?” He asked, and I was beginning to realise that nothing I said was going to make him feel any better.
“So, you’re just going to sit at home all night?”

“Fuck you!” I spat back. Dawson had no idea that for the first time in my life, I was actually getting something that I had dreamt about for years. Admittedly, that was because I hadn’t told him, but it made me no less annoyed.
“Whatever, Ethan” he sighed, as we reached the top of his street. “Enjoy your night with your ‘grandma’” he added, and strolled off.
I watched him walk away, and felt another sting of guilt. I don’t know why I didn’t tell him, exactly. Maybe I didn’t want to jinx it, or maybe I still felt weird talking about guys around him. Of course, there was no need to be. Dawson had been one of the most supportive people I’d known over the last few years, but this was my private life, and I didn’t need to share that with anybody.
“Are you hooking up with Double D, tonight? Dad asked, as soon as I got home. He stood in the hall with a Chuckie mask on, and a lightsabre in his hand.
“First of all” I said, dropping my backpack, “hooking up has a very different meaning now, than it did eighty years ago, and secondly, yeah”.
I was already beginning to regret the lies that I had to continuously tell people, but despite the fact that I was eighteen years old, I knew that my parents would be reluctant for me to leave the house on Halloween night if they knew I wasn’t with Dawson.
“Back in my day” Dad said, following me into the kitchen, “all of my guy friends and I used to hook up every single Friday, for milkshakes and a bit of a boogie”.
“God, dad. Have you always been this lame?

I couldn’t take the second hand embarrassment any longer, and squirmed my way out of the kitchen and into my bedroom. I grabbed my phone, stared at the blank screen, and sighed.
Was it even worth it? Sure, Troy was everything I had ever wanted, but the guy didn’t even look at me in school, and he sure as hell didn’t feel the same way about me, as I felt about him. Plus, I was now lying to my best friend and my parents, all so I could be some jock’s dirty little secret. I sighed again and fell back onto my bed.
“Give me a sign” I said to nobody in particular, and seconds later, the phone buzzed. “That’ll do” I grinned, and excitedly opened the image.

It was the first time in as long as I could remember that I wasn’t excitedly rushing toward Dawson’s house. Halloween had always been one of our favourite nights, and as I reached his street, I couldn’t help but look down and feel bad.
Was he really sitting at home, on his own? If he was, it was entirely my fault, but what was I supposed to do? I simply could not turn down this chance with Troy, and as I continued toward the scrap yard, my focus turned back to what was coming.

I rolled my eyes. I understood that he wanted to keep things between us, but who the hell was going to randomly break into a scrap yard and find us in the depths of darkness? Still, my heart sped up as I approached him.
“Hey” I said, as I stood a few feet in front of him, with sweaty palms and a hard cock. He didn’t answer me, which was rather concerning.
“So” I continued, shuffling awkwardly on my feet, “should we um… Should we get started?”
I was beginning to feel like I was at a creepy job interview. Troy stared back at me through dark holes in a Scream mask, and I scrunched my brows together. Was he trying to scare me, or something?
“Uh… Do you um… Do you maybe wanna take off the mask?” I asked, with a nervous laugh. “I think we’re pretty safe down here”.
I waited for a response, and cocked a brow when he slowly shook his head.
“Dude, this is sorta’ overkill, don’t you think?”.
Troy shook his head again, and finally I sighed.
“Okay, fine, whatever” I said, “how about I just suck your dick then?”
Once again, he remained silent. Was this guy serious? I’d cancelled all my plans just to meet his dumb ass in the middle of nowhere, and now he wasn’t even speaking to me?!
“I’ll make it easier” I spat, and dropped to my knees in front of him. “Better?”
I could tell that he was looking down at me, but Troy refused to speak again. What was even more confusing, was that when I reached for his pants, he backed away.
“You know what?” I growled, and got back to my feet. “This was a mistake”.
I wanted him to stop me, but Troy remained silent as I shook my head angrily and turned my back on him. “What a fucking asshole” I mumbled to myself, as I made my way back up the rubble path, and then he called my name, and I froze in place.
“Wait” he said, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I slowly turned back to him.
I knew it as soon as I heard it. The voice was unmistakeable, and I’d heard Troy speaking enough times to know that the person standing before me wasn’t Troy at all.
“Dawson?” I gasped.
