Fanfiction has more to work with when it's not just based on a name like the next generation...with the exception of Daphne Greengrass.

Bar Calak

plenty of real estate to explore for sure!

Bar Calak

more like two arrows pointing in the same direction haha but basically the same shape

Krantz37

I think in this universe more fanfiction will be written about Harry's life after Hogwarts than during. The story may be over, but just like real life, the future is an undiscovered country.

Joshua Elotu

The Luna/Ginny/Harry love triangle implied is comedy gold. Or did I read too much into that interaction.

Dalen

Honestly bas would be perfect for Project X

J.C. Anders

Y'know what would be dope? If they did that Twilight thing where they show all the named characters throughout the films during the credits.

Philip

I don't think I've ever read any fanfic where hagrid gets the elder wand to keep safe and replace his wand, thats the first time I've read it in like 15 years of fanfics and I love the idea that the most powerful wand in universe is in the hands of a filthy half breed who never even finished school lol

Scott

God damn I love this story.

Pontus

I doubt this is the end of the Potter verse for Bas. Lore books, a better fantastic beast trilogy :)

Pontus

There is nothing that says that you cant do a movie and/or book with JK rowling when he is old like a good cursed child.

Bar Calak

I bet Bas is gonna be wondering the same thing soon.

Catherine Colin

Oh ok, that makes more sense.

Bar Calak

God I just realized how the wording made it look after I read your second comment about them being ghosts Haha no. I just meant that asong as they completed their owls they could opt out of newts - since that's considered minimum required education. Not everyone would want to go back after suffering through the last year.

Mr Mouse

This was incredibly sweet, and I'm immensely grateful; Of course the question remains, what now for Bas?

Catherine Colin

So the younger years were allowed to cross the lake? Or was this a special trip for the survivors able to continue on while the dead would be left behind, Forever Young?

Bar Calak

Woops good catch 'Thinner in numbers than the start of our journey seven years prior, yet all four houses were still represented in the graduating class. Even if there were large patches missing' Lets say I neglected to include this line: from the full picture, a few younger faces filled those gaps. Some from the lower NEWT years, those like Ginny and Luna - who'd suffered too much under the death eater regime at Hogwarts - flew the coop with their OWLs as enough. Deciding against adding more bodies haunting the castle's corridors.'

Soh•M©

Early graduation maybe ?

Catherine Colin

Unless their actually dead and being talked to through the ring hallow?

Catherine Colin

I like it. I really did like the epilogue . I’m just confused. Why Ginny and Luna are there when they’re a year behind the main cast.

Relayed

Grew old while settled on their track is a great way to describe the problem with the fate of the trio during the end of the original epilogue. You are also absolutely correct about the matter of choices in regarding entering adult hood. After all “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Harry chose to heal his greatest trauma by helping another child orphaned by war. Iroh would be proud. The previous generation married early most likely due to the war and the threat of death being ever present. This generation has the luxury of growing and and their brain to finish developing before choosing what kind of life they want for themselves. A change to the wizarding world itself seen through the characters.

Memory Dump

You goddamn bet it is.

Bar Calak

Salut!

Bar Calak

I wanted it to parallel with his own childhood (without Sirius ) and how hopefully he aims to make it better for teddy than he had it. Sorta makes it come full circle.

Bar Calak

Oh, for sure! There absolutely has to has to has to be a ragee. It's Bas final opportunity to throw a crew party for HP. And FedEx is always there for clean up!

Bar Calak

You always pick up on such minute details - which I do feel most do, but so few remember them - including me! Hahaha! Defo make taking the time to slip clues into my prose so so so worth it. Yea I gave my reasoning in an earlier reply, your points are mirror my own. <3

Bar Calak

Yup. With each person's dialogue I was trying to show in what direction each character was choosing to grow. Harry dad, Hermione ministry, Neville herby healer, Malfoy actual redemption, etc. Just my preference over 19 years later. Nothing more tbh haha.

Leafninja91

I loved this epilogue. I thinks its so important that Harry is going to be there for Teddy. He is the last family Harry has after all.

Treebeard Joshua

That was one hell of a chapter, Cheers!

Bar Calak

Hey that's totally and absolutely fair. The customer is always right in matters of taste. Your critique is always constructive so I remain thankful. That said, I hope it's not too defensive if I go through my reasoning with regards to your specific issues with it. 1st on growing up: in my opinion the og epilogue didn't have Harry grow up, just grow old. To me it always felt like he never grew out of waht he was forced to be when younger, and just continued to live life on tracks someone else put him on. His kids names is a good example - he never moved on from the past. It's true. Youre right. I didn't put a neat and tidy cap on the whole story. Because I don't think the world is that easy. He's still a teen, without a concrete idea of what he wants to do in future. Except for one undeniable urge - to raise his godson. Taking responsibility of a child - at least to me - is one of the most grown up things someone can do. But again, it's all about perspective. You're totes valid in thinking otherwise. There's nothing wrong with us disagreeing with each other haha! 2nd the pairings: I can respect your view here fully. Totes fair. If it came off as wishy washy and indecisive, then it was. My bad. I'll blame my poor writing because that wasn't my intention. i was more trying to get across that going forward Harry had choice. In love, in work, and life in general. Ginny and Luna were meant to serve as vehicles to showcase that. One offered quidditch as an example. The other offered travel/magizoology. And each made it known they were interested in their own unique way. Harry could pursue either or neither. The point is he gets something he never really had before. Choice and importanly - time. But if it didn't read that way, then nobody's fault but my own. Lesson learned maybe a little less poetry next time haha. And please there's never any need to sugarcoat anything with me. If Im doing a shit job I wanna know about it with full detail why and how - just as much as I want to know what you're enjoying. It's all to better myself, the story, and everyone's day!

Aagkard

Waku waku

Bar Calak

Sugar and spice is part of the recipe too!

Bar Calak

The next arc ain't too far off!

Bar Calak

Glad you continue to enjoy! The teddy bit has always been the image I've had in my mind since the start. The preceding bits came about more organically as the story grew to what it is. And great catch on the allegory with Harry, Andromeda, and teddy relating to Bas Rowling and HP.

Bar Calak

Can a brother get some Claritin up in here!?

Bar Calak

Now we gotta put them in a searing skillet and make those onions sweat

Bar Calak

Stinksap

Bar Calak

I think the last movies premiere is proba gonna be from a fans perspective.

Bar Calak

Hope that's a good damn!

Bar Calak

So no different than irl haha

Bar Calak

A new one set to begin fairly soon!

Sacrificing one’s personal prestige and power in favor of finding joy in starting a home and nurturing the next generation is something Dumbledore preached but did not practice according to Rowling during her interview with Radcliffe. Harry isn’t without purpose as his priority at this moment is Teddy. Whatever adventure, career or relationship may come will only be secondary to the promise he made to look after the wellbeing of Teddy. That is growing up. Plus he’s 18 so it’s hard to set any of his future prospects in stone. The fact that he settled for what he had prior to the epilogue is what made the epilogue artificial to people like myself. Besides, adulthood doesn’t mean that you stop growing and changing. As one challenge ends another one begins. Ginny in the books may have been compatible with Harry at 16 and 17 but changing her lifestyle to that of a professional athlete will change her. Prioritizing the wellbeing of a child will change the way Harry grows. Once they leave school, they will all grow and develop under different circumstances and different environments. That combined with the trauma that they have to come to terms with means that they all have their own more mundane journey to go through. They may not be novel worthy adventure but they are adventures they have to go through to become their greater selves. I will not disagree with your opinion regarding the ending as most people like the original HP ending. I will disagree that he is acting like a teenager with no plan for his future. It takes a great man, not a teenager, to honor his word and take on the responsibility of a child unprompted. As for Ginny and Luna, you would recall that both provided relief and comfort to Harry when he was conflicted in the 5th and 6th books. In this version of the story, hints of their rivalry for Harry could also be seen during the DA meeting. You should also note that in this version of the story, the news of Luna’s capture resulted in Harry triggering the taboo willingly to rescue her. Something he said he would not do for his aunt. In this story they are tied for his affection.

McLuvin

Except it doesn’t show that they’re adults. It shows that they’re still children. I’m sure if you’re still in Uni, and you’ve never had a job, the idea of finally going out into the job market makes you feel grown up. But you’re not, you’re inexperienced and still a kid. Everything in this new ending screams ‘I’m still growing up and don’t know what to do with my life’. Maybe that’ll appeal to people in their later teens or early twenties, but it’s NOT the themes of the book. As I said, the original was clumsy and flat out cheesy and not good, but it was consistent. This is flip flopping and indecision. Edit: If I was going to be harsh, I might even call it scared. Scared to make a decision.

Heraclitus

Not to mention Harry/Draco. He *was* fondling Draco's wand...

Eduardo Torres

I don't think that the original is better, yes the final pairing in this one is open to interpretation, but the direction and the ending of where everyone's going is still being set, it's not even leaving a note that a sequel could be in the works, because of that personal promise she did to Andromeda kind of seals the deal on no more adventures, growing up is being shown by talking about the careers they're going to have and their plans now that they are adults.

Pope Yoda I

Infinitely preferable over the OG epilogue, which sucked such an enormous amount of ass it almost tanked the franchise. Instead of writing a traditional party / after-party, I encourage you to consider writing an after-party kegger à la 'The Hangover.' Example: MC wakes up completely naked, locked in the trunk of a car (which turns out to be the Weasley prop car). His only companion is a Hitachi wand on which someone wrote 'Elder Wand' in sharpie. On his journey of gradually reacquiring his clothes - starting with the most useless item, so perhaps a sock - he gradually recalls increasingly absurd details, ending with remembering that he left Emma in the driver's seat of that same car. Luckily, he learns that Fedex secreted her back to her trailer, leaving him to his just deserts.

McLuvin

I feel like this ending is actually weaker than the original. The original felt like an end, a bit of a silly, cheesy end, but an end. This feels like it couldn’t make up its mind. In the pairing, in Harry’s future and in the future of the Wizarding world. A story who’s theme is growing up, even if it didn’t always execute it well, and sometimes even poorly, has now ended with a teenager with no real plan for the future, no relationship, acting like he’s still a teenager. The original ending showed you he was a man now, even if it was clumsy. The shipping bait also felt weak. Just bite the bullet, Ginny wasn’t written well at times, but she was always the intended romance in the books, this felt like a reaction to her otl movie self, where’s she’s terrible. I’m not gonna sugar coat it, usually I’m very supportive of your work, but this was not a strong chapter in my personal option.

Who's cutting onions 😟

War sage

Damn end of a era, and that ending

Relayed

Ron/Hermione/Harry, Harry/Fawkes, Harry/Malfoy (returning his wand)

Relayed

That was fantastic. Normally I would list the highlights of the chapter and explain what I enjoyed about them but this time I would have to list everything in the chapter. Never the less, Fawkes choosing him and taking the place of Hedwig and the open ended nature of character’s future feels more poetic and more appropriate than the original formulaic ending. Andromeda representing Rowling, Harry representing Bas, Teddy representing the IP's future.

Evertime

Man tears

Ben

Goddamn ninjas cutting onions.....

J.C. Anders

Count em off, Harry/Ginny, Harry/Luna, Harry/Andromeda, Neville/Blaise
