What element do you use most?

I think most of the enemies that have mechanics that reward DPS were created because I felt Ice was actually too strong, lol. This poll goes to show that even if I find something to be overpowered, players might not necessarily agree, so it's better to check first before nerfing things, because the main change I had planned was to make FrostShield weaker.

Salad Mancer

Absolutely. Everyone loves big damage numbers on the enemy even if that means only surviving a few fights per full heal/rest

I posted a more in-depth comment below, but I think Ice is the strongest spell in the game at the moment.

Yeah, the results are exactly why I wanted to do a poll before I change anything, because my testing pretty much always concludes "Ice is the best element for every situation." I was thinking about nerfing it, but if it's not popular as is, then what's the point? I do think it should be somewhat strong regardless, because I think players generally gravitate to whatever does the most damage, so Ice needs to be almost too strong to "feel" strong, if that makes sense.

I like to stun and then freeze them and then hit them with fire, so its like a thermal shock, i know it doesn't work that way but its what i like to do lol

Throwaway227

Lightning is very strong with the stun ability, strikes twice and overload, so its my main element but I also use fire for some support as it builds up for massive damage. I typically rotate between using fire, frostfire, lightning, flamestorm in that order to do max damage but you can also just focus on lightning and try to stunlock the enemy permanently. Ice doesn't have much use IMO because there are a lot of enemies that make you want to DPS race and end the fight very quickly, and MC is a glass cannon anyway so adding a little extra defense doesn't help much.

kinda floor on the ice hate, although hates a bit a strong word for it. i always started off with shielding myself before switching to other elements with only the really hard fight going near full shield with a bit of fire frost burns to grind em down

When I was starting out with the game and toying around with the combat system, I tried to make a Fire Mage build and a Lightning Mage build and stuck with the Lightning solely for the stunlocks. I value a good offense as my best defense when building a character and felt like Fire and Lightning damage was pretty comparable, and interchangeable. Glancing over the largely defensive-tooled Ice spells, and the comparatively weaker offensive ice spell damage output, I very early on concluded that they were not designed for my aggressively-minded combat build and never tried them out.

The best type of damage mitigation is preventing damage altogether. Lightning go "brrrrrrrrrrr" as it stuns people

I'm honestly shocked to see ice score that low. I bounce around a lot with builds but I never fully abandon ice spells. A lot of the time I'll stack the normal ice shield and then lightning one but at the very least I'll do one of those in any fight I'm taking at least mildly seriously

Honestly I pick off of vibes on playthroughs not balance so my vote probably doesn't help much. I usually am FFXIV BLM minded and will spam fire and alternate ice in for the defense lol

I use and buff lightning a lot early, then when you get the enduring tomb, I spec into ice really hard to become really hard to defeat. End game is both shield spells, blinding heat and lightning/firestorm for damage
