Thanks again Priapus for another great episode. I can’t wait to see where the story will lead to. The arrival of the other gladiators at THAT MOMENT was not something I had anticipated, but was very welcome. I am highly attracted to The Barbarian’s bddy (or rival) – the one who stripped him in the gladiatorial school Several mentions of the other characters have been made by other readers. I agree. Not only the other gladiator is handsome, but the slave leading them and one or two of the Praetorians. Well done and congratulations on what you are achieving.

it’s now a story with diversity of characters. Not a simple fairy tale. Either the heroes or evils are illustrated very very vividly. Even the side dishes are well prepared with delicious humor! lol !

That's great to hear! Had a more historical background in mind ad first, but that was far too dominant in the background, so I settled for something more neutral. Glad the color scheme works! The most frustrating thing on working with digital images is that you’ve very little control of the final result. Even after endless calibration the hue, saturation, brightness and contrast are always different on other screens, browsers and applications. At times it can drive one completely mad. Reviewing my work on a different pc can at time be a real shocking experience ;o)

Very impressed by the latest set of pictures. The pale colourscemes (in the main) work VERY well in mu opinion. The flesh tomes and the ivories and light ochres of the background create a wonderfully rich effect. As always I love your humour – the facial expressions and the two amazed Praetorians made me laugh out loud. Great work as always. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Thanks Philip! Yes, I don't think they were very eager to safe their malevolent superior in the first place, and by the time the reached the sport of the crime, they were a bit distracted by other big issue ;o)

I love the wit, in earlier instalments, whereby the court officials and Praetorian Guards make no attempt whatsoever to intervene or rescue their Emperor!! Very amusing. As always your artwork is subtle, believeable (despite in Barbarian’s HUGE phallus) and very arousing. I look forward to future episodes with eager anticipation!! 

Found the title, it's called Child of the Sun. by Kyle Onstott. Not sure why, but the paperback edition on Amazon costs $520,42. Must be a hell of a story ;o)

You certainly know your Roman history, Priapus. Kudos to you. Yes Elagabalus brought a black stonew from his native Emesa in Syria. I think it was placed in a temple close to the Palatine palce. I have an idea it was the god El and that sexual rites were offered to it. There a good (but old) semi- sexy novel about Elagabalus by (I thinki) Lance Horner. “The Black Sun”?

Thanks, that’s good to hear! Did some research an visited the sights several times, but most of it is just my imagination. Still it’s hard to imagine what a grewsome place of entertainment that must have been… Ah yes, it could definitely be the notorious Elagabalus. Wasn’t he the one that worshiped a black stone? Have to look into it and perhaps interesting to make a reference to that.

No bore at all and good question! Main reason is I don’t have a good model for that. Somehow it doesn’t work for me, like the hair I armpits, it always deforms and looks awkward, especially in close-up. But you’re right, it’s an important detail that’s often missing and I should do something about that ;o)

Finally - sorry to be a bore - but a QUESTION. You show every detail of chest hair, nipples, cock and balls - but NEVER an ass crack or hole in sight (though they are evidently there!!) Is there a reason for this unique lack of detail?This is not criticism - just a genuine question. Thanks for listening. I'm hooked.

I have a long shelf of books on gladiators and arenas and your research has been thorough. I don't think I have ever see illustrations that come close to being as it probably was. Incidentally the lighting is exact - very Italian. The gladiatorial school at the beginning could be the Ludus Magnus(the training school for gladiators) which can still be seen beside the Colosseum. The young Emperor could be Elagabalus - a lad from Syria who had a charioteer as a lover!!! I also enjoy your secondary characters. In this series I love the lad who pulls off the Barbarian's wrap, and also the Barbarian;s servant. Like to see more of them:)

Thanks Bennett, Yes, i have heard about that remarkable discussion, so I'm not sure about the Romans, but I think the viewer today gets the message ;o) And I guess that indeed sums up the audience of the Colosseum, the rest of society was probably thrown into the arena itself ;o)

There is ongoing debate on the meaning of thumbs-up v. thumbs-down (do a Google search for "Roman thumb up or down"). Regardless, still a great story. Seating in the Colosseum tiers was done strictly by social rank, with senators and emperor's favorites closest, then non-senators nobles, then wealthy citizens, then poor citizens, and finally, the common poor, slaves, and women. Some people were banned from attending, such as gravediggers. All events were free to those who were allowed to attend.
