They aren't that smart.

Honestly I'm still unconvinced on fully provoking Theodore like that... So far he send assassins once... And didn't do anything after, him actually sallying out of mystras was both super unlikely and honestly the best case szenario for Thomas and Constantine anyhow as they would have both irrevocal prove of his treachery as well as a much easier time defeating and capturing him. Like this though? On the word of a simple commoner Captain who claimed "one of these assassins was once a soldier under Theodore" they marched onto his brother's city had countrymen slaughter each other and tore the gates of Mystras to rubble... Unless they find more substantial proof or can hold off a big Ottoman attack I could actually see the Emperor be more upset with Constantine than Theodore's "supposed actions". What was even gained here? As Millitary strategists they should have known taking Mystras fully quickly was an extreme longshot. NOW though ANYTHING that Theodore does be it assassins, attack them, raid them even cooperate with the Ottomans is suddenly justified as his brother literally came "unprovoked" to "kill me my people and destroy my city". Really it would have been much more effective to ride to Mystras with an escort and either enter peacefully if Theodore allows it or send a messenger proclaiming something like "Despot Constantine has crushed the Ottoman forces under Tuharan Bey, we know stand to rebuilt and hold the Hexamillion Wall against the surely coming and stronger Ottoman Attacks!" And then something generic about the people of the Morea needing to stand togather against the invading Ottomans and so on closing with every support in workers or soldiers from Mystras is of course welcome. Either Theodore stays in his castle and says nothing which will damage his reputation a lot completely without bloodshed and destruction and actually give Constantine good justification to take out the smaller outposts in other towns. Or he comes out and tries to argue a position every reasonable person sees is completely wrong... Both would be good outcomes for Constantine... I feel like ESPECIALLY in hindsight Andreas and George should have told Constantine its basically impossible to take and siege the Citadel if Theodore bunkers down... which SHOULD make Constantine/Micheal reconsider this action. No use in attacking and cornering a pro forma ally now certain enemy when you KNOW finishing him off now is completely impossible anyhow.

I feel like a better way to get the point of crisis for the monks would be "do you want me to prints Qurans? Because as things are going, I'll have to for my new Muslim overlords"
