I was thinking if Constantine decides to invent the telescope he could set up semaphore stations

The beacon system used in Anatolia was great for quick alarms and emergency signals, but it didn’t offer the versatility or potential of a “proto” mail system. A proper postal network opens the door to more advanced communication, bureaucracy, and coordination—things that can really shape the empire’s future. It’s slower than beacons for emergencies, but the long-term benefits make it worth it!

Great question! I actually thought about using a pigeon network, but in the end, I decided to go with a "pony express"-style system instead. It felt more practical for the era and also allowed for the formation of a proto-mail system—something that's pretty advanced for the time but still doable with the resources and technology available. It'll be fun to see how it evolves!

How realistic would it be to set up a network of postal pigeons? It is a long-term project, so it does not address immediate needs. However, for supporting future bureaucracy, faster communication is an advantage. A centrally controlled state without some communication system will eventually collapse...

The beacons you are referring to are good as warnings or alarms. They have too narrow a transmission bandwidth for any sustained long-term communication.

Huh didn't expect a courier system to be made thought Constantine would bring back the beacon system that existed in Anatolia for a time but this works to 🤔
