art update: summer is over

For all of us northern hemisphere people, the summer is gone and the flu season has started. I'm not so much worried about myself, but the coder has a habit of picking up stuff by just looking at it through a binocular so I think I'm going to give him an advance warning about shaking hands with snotty people and keeping that apple cider vinegar close at hand. I already warned him(too late) about something else. Something which is closely related to when you can expect the new build.
So about a week ago I mailed him asking how things were going with the build. I received an email saying he'd tell me more "tomorrow". When I still hadn't heard from him after a few days I sent another email and got a reply. I'm just gonna copy/paste it below
Gonna be a couple more days my friend. I did that thing I frequently do where I spend a long time working on a complicated minigame that ultimately is stupid and doesn't work and horribly slows down the thing anyway. I've wanted to include a Collectible Card Game in this thing for so looong but I finally accept that it's a dumb idea. It was a kinda important element in progression for the *censored by me* so I've made a quick replacement game to make up for some of that, but it features way less prominently and now I need more things to do. Working on it buddy, coming to you soon(tm).
Internally my reaction went a bit like this.
... Awh shit. As the coder is well aware of himself, he has a strong tendency to want to add "minigames" to the game. It's just like with the crabfighting/collecting "minigame" during book 3. It's a nice idea and I'm proud of him to want to add different and new stuff to keep things fresh and new, but he really has a bad handle on gauging what kind of scope is appropriate for these minigames.
I knew he wanted to add a new minigame, but I had no idea it was this or I would've tried my best to dissuade him. Bless his "can do" attitude. FET wouldn't exist without it. But sometimes I'd like him to be slightly less adventurous.
He hadn't asked me for any art for a CCG so I just assumed it was going to be a relatively very easy thing.
So there you have it. He says a couple of more days and I really hope that's all it'll take, but I'm not going to take any bets on that. If we'll be able to get the bughunt version out before the end of the month I'm going to consider us lucky. Just trying to be realistic here.
I was actually working on a new scene for this build the last couple of days which I thought we could shove in sideways if things were going smoothly but I don't think that'll happen now. Maybe something to add during the bughunt days if it's stable enough.
So with that kind of disappointing news out of the way, the good news is that the art stuff for the next next build is mostly wrapped up. I think I already mentioned it in the last art update, but I've started work on some of the scenes which will end the current route. Mostly because I want to give those more time to "sit on the stove" and possibly change things if I decide it's not good enough.
Doing stuff in advance also made a bad habit of mine resurface, which is: not properly saving files in folders with a logical name. This means I slowly started losing files again. In fact I lost something which had me extremely cranky and angry with myself until I remembered I might be able to find it in a recent backup I made. Luckily I could and after a small sigh of relief I've been spending some time going through all my current files and giving them proper names and adding them to a folder in which I'll actually be able to find it when the need arises.
And finally I made a picture for all of us who are already longing for the next summer. As much as I like listening to the rain(which there is plenty of during autumn) I don't like the days getting shorter and having less daylight.
And that's already all I have to say this time. I'm seriously hoping the coder is giving us a realistic estimation of the time needed to finish the build, but keep in mind, his glass is pretty much always half full, never half empty. A great mindset to live by but less when you're trying to pin down dates.

I kinda wish the coder would stop being overly ambitious with the mini games. The card games before were totally fine and servicable. I think most people play for the story and lewd content anyways.

Take your time..While I’d love to play the next build I also appreciate devs that actually care about their games and that’s exactly the way I feel about you guys. Looking forward to the next build! Also I’d love to see a rework of Book 1 maybe sometime after book 4’s finished? There are so many possibilities in both water tribes and it would be a bummer to miss out on those.

Thanks. We'd all like to have that magic wand which turns our ideas immediately into reality, but this one is going to take a lot longer. I doubt the coder has truly given up on the idea. Whether in FET or not I think he'll want to take another crack at it eventually.

I'm pretty sure he'd like to hear there's kindred ccg lovers among our patrons. I never got much further than a couple of magic the gathering games and deciding it was really for me.

I don't disagree, but I also feel like we need to be careful and not forgot the minigames are supposed to be mini.... or at least optional if they're larger.

We jumped into the deep end when starting FET and book 1 was definitely where it was more a matter of discovering how things worked(treading water) than actually swimming. I think we'll do a poll once we're done and see how most people would feel about a reworking of book 1. I can see the discrepancy between it and the later books, but there's also part of me which likes it exactly because it shows our first feeble steps.

Personally I have very little experience with playing cardgames, but I can immediately except the part about it getting complicated. I never really asked whether the coder is an avid player of those but I guess he is when he wanted to include one in FET!

I can't even remember what made me start including chibi Toph, but I'm glad I did! Oh and a long time ago I bought some magic the gathering cards but never been able to get into it myself either.

Bummer but I think we've all been there, starting a project we think is a good idea but turning out to be a nightmare. No worries from me man.
Hard to say exactly how far. But eventually when you enter training with Korra it will say "under development", Have you got Korra and Asami to titplay each others?

omg i had no idea that was a thing. i played with the crabs for a little bit but i never leveled up enough to challenge iroh. might try it next playthrough

I enjoy the mini games. In my opinion, I'd rather wait longer and witness the true potential of the game, and not hinder creativity due to having to rush.
I hope book 1 will be longer once you guys are done with the 4 books and the bonus route. I wanna meet Yue in the Northern water tribe.

not going to lie a collectable card game would be cool the main issue is that they can get really complicated depending on the game hell look at chess a simple board game until you realize their are millions of possible outcomes

Use the arrow buttons to move the player. Eventually you'll get a crab battle. Also that gap in the wall on the upper right side will lead you to the other side of the Coliseum. Don't worry, it took me s long time to figure it out.
So whenever I've tried the crab mini game I can never catch wild crabs, I click on the grass in coliseum but there is never anything there to get, all you can see is grass patches, shady, and big boob June. Is there something I'm not doing correctly?

to be honest I have never been a big fan of the minigames that don't correlate to making in-game currency. It's cool if he wants to make some mini-games on the side, but don't make it hold up the actual game XD We all know why we are really here and it ain't for the bootleg crab pokemon LMFAO

Someday I will write a virus, which will infect every copy of every OS in the world. It will normally cause no harm, it will simply lie in wait until it detects that someone is adding a minigame to a porno game. When it detects this event, it will take over the developer's speakers and play Starship's "We Built This City" on maximum volume in an infinite loop until they stop with that nonsense. If they persist or attempt to disable the speakers it will infect their phone, their roommate's computer, and if need be their fucking toaster and start playing "The Jungle Book" soundtrack or, if need be, even Vanilla Ice's Greatest Hits until sanity is restored.
Is there a roadmap of some kind? Are you able to five an estimation of the completion of book 4? Also what are your plans (if any) once book 4 is complete? I really hope it's a continuation of some kind or another game which is similar to this. P.s I thoroughly enjoy the game keeps me hooked for ages! Keep up the amazing work!
