RENAISSANSE SI

Will be up in less than an hour!

Andy Worcester

I'm not constantly refreshing for the next update, definitely not doing that.

RENAISSANSE SI

That’s some spicy wishful thinking! The battle is coming soon, and things are about to get very intense. Stay tuned 👀

RENAISSANSE SI

Thanks for the edits! 🙏

RENAISSANSE SI

Oh yeah, Demetrios is definitely not living his best life right now. Let’s just say… sitting on a throne that’s more for show than power, while hearing whispers about your brother pulling off miracles in Greece? Not exactly relaxing. We’ll get a POV from him down the line.

RENAISSANSE SI

The discovery of the New World was probably bound to happen sooner or later. Even if Constantine held the Silk Road and kept trade flowing, that itch to explore, conquer, and get just a little richer would've pushed someone west eventually. The real twist is who gets there first and how that changes everything after. Byzantines planting a double-headed eagle in the Caribbean? Now that’s a fun thought.

SKE3 BOP

If Constantine retains the passages to the silk road then there would be no need for the European nations to discover a new path to the east, therefore would there be a discovery of the new world by other European nations?

RENAISSANSE SI

Yeap, yeap. Murad’s pride and the image of Ottoman invincibility basically force his hand—and Constantine’s counting on it. Turning their strength into a liability was the whole play. The Pyrvelos muskets use flintlocks mechanism.

Thanks for the chapter!

Zayari

It would be interesting to see what the puppet in Constantinople thinks of all this, and the tension no doubt rising in his false court.

Zayari

This exactly but this was a common tactic during this age and for some reason very few if anyone went out of their way to remedy that weakness. Constantine likely has though, blessed with future knowledge and all

Ben Lockwood

He is about to find out why in total war all range focused armies corner camps, also he is going to learn the devastating affects of canister shot.

Simon Kellis

Does Murad even consider the possibility of an irregular timed watch from the Romans? I mean who would taut the Sultan like that and not have eyes on the horizon during standard watch changes?

Elaine

this was a good chappie but I think Murad has made a massive blunder in his cavalry that will lose him the battle. War horse specifically have to be trained against the sounds of guns and cannons and they're used so sparingly during this time period that I doubt their war horses have been trained to ignore the sound and not run in fear of it. I imagine his cav will hit a wall of musket fire when they charge and the sound will cause the horse to panic and run in fear causing a rout which then causes the infantry to panic which results in a mass rout which results in the Roman's running them down from the field

Pearl of the Orient

had a few of guns of their own Change to: had a few guns of their own. Somewhat anachronistic as the terms gunne(Middle English), gonne(latin) were only used by the English. Cannon(used by continental europe) was more common for smaller pieces and bombards and great bombards were what the Ottomans used

Pearl of the Orient

I do not flee from a fight Change to: I never flee from battle!

Oh this is gonna be good! Murad knows he's being baited, but he can't refuse too much rides on the invincible Ottoman army, the Invulnerable personage of the Sultan for him to even wait and fortify. The pikes form squares, now I wonder do they have flintlocks within them, calvary trying to force the flanks on poor ground. Constantine has turned the Ottomans strengths into weaknesses, calvary can't maneuver in poor ground, and their Empire must answer every challenge. Hehehehe, oh this was evil of him but oh so clever.

Mineseikea

I hope this ends with a crushing defeat for the ottomans. The Roman’s loses a few thousands and Murad loses his entire force, possibly him and all his generals gets captured and gets blinded. All Europeans holdings rebel against the ottomans and turns to Constantine’s side.

RENAISSANSE SI

Thanks so much! I really enjoyed writing this one, especially diving into how propaganda hits in that era. A few painted words could shake armies and twist the decisions of kings. Fun stuff to play with!

Katherine

Excalent chapter! :D

RENAISSANSE SI

Haha yes, full-on #comeatmebro energy! Murad knows he's being baited — but with that many troops, strong cavalry, he’s betting sheer force can carry the day even if the setup isn’t ideal.

russell marsh

So it's a #come at me bro 😁 Who's the more the fool then the fool who follows him.
