Visual Interpretation – The Battle of Domokos

I’ve been playing around a bit with AI visuals lately, mostly as prep work for a long-term idea: creating a short video about the Battle of Domokos in the style of Kings and Generals. Here’s one of the concept images.
This isn’t meant to replace your imagination, just a visual moodboard of sorts. I tried to keep it somewhat historically grounded: late Byzantine armor influences, a bit of Tercio-style inspiration in the pike formations, and a gritty battlefield atmosphere that reflects the tone of the chapter.
Let me know what you think! Do you picture the scene differently? What elements would you love to see if this ever becomes a full animated short?
PS: Who’s the guy in front? Could be Captain Andreas?

I totally with you on that, a full AI-generated video with armies would definitely be a mess right now. I wasn’t really thinking cinematic cutscenes, more like a narrated map-based campaign breakdown, maybe with a few static scenes to highlight key moments. Trying to get AI troops to look properly historical is a whole other headache too.

+1 for me! I’m a massive fan of the total war games, though unfortunately I don’t believe there’s a “modern” total war thst fits in this time period. The closest we have is Attila, and unfortunately, Medieval II’s graphics have not aged gracefully…

As someone who does a lot of DMing, I do get the temptation of using AI images for helping set the scene / mood for the story, it’s honestly a great tool for giving people the rough idea and mind of how exactly a scene looks. I actually won’t mind if chapters include some images to help with understanding the images of the armies. However, I do believe trying to make full on videos may be a bit too much for AI at the current moment, especially with generating large armies. AI already quite struggles with the finer details, as Pearl of the Orient pointed out. I believe instead of trying to generate a video, where inevitably there will be issues with soldiers bleeding into one another, and the motion looking like a dream with no real weight, it would instead be great to instead have individual images, where you can use image-in-image features to edit out anything that looks off in the picture. (Admittedly, it has been a while since I last seen an AI generated video, so this may be outdated, but that’s the impression of AI I have thus far. )

Nice visual idea, if you ever play Total War, you could also think about doing a recorded session as well for a simulated experience, too. Testing out some scenarios with Ottoman and Europeans.
