Bringing the Dutch military reforms to warfare early.

RENAISSANSE SI

Appreciate it! These next chapters are gonna hit hard: all fire and steel.

And not gently. Fire’s lit, now we see who stands in the storm.

Thank you!

Yeah, we saw what a massacre Domokos was. During that battle, Constantine only had around 700 muskets, and now he has tripled that number. And the fact that he has simply given the order to fire until the weapons melt or break is not a good sign either. It will be interesting to see the reactions of all who are there to witness it.

Kirra

Honestly, it makes sense to remove the Garrisons for Thessaloniki and nearby areas. I mean Sigismund is dead, and the forces that came from Hungary are either dead, fleeing, or with Constantine, so why not gather a considerable enough force to try to crush the remaining Crusader forces?

Kirra

The six tagmata formation, comprising around 3000 men, will hold the centre. I estimate that 5000 to 6000 infantry will be allocated to each flank, totaling around 13000 to 15000 infantry units in total. My best guess is that most of the cannons will be in the center while a few might be stationed at the flanks for support. Yeah, this will be all or nothing. There is nowhere else to go. I am also surprised by the choice not to have anything in the centre, but that might simply be to trick Murad into charging there. Show them a seemingly weak spot in the lines, so they will try to break through and encircle the Crusaders' forces.

Max Müller

1) This is really overloading the flank a lot. this means their left flank is going to be the better part of 15.000 infantry. 2) The part that i am a bit uncertain about is where the cannons are positioned for now and how their effectivness is. 3) maybe a staggered checkerboard line would be even more effective against the Ottomans sicne it maximizes the time it takes to get past the line of fire. 4) This is pretty much a high-risk all or nothing. Very surprised he is not keeping a reserve.

40,000? The only way he has that many is if he stripped Thessaloniki of the best of the garrison, there is no way he met Sigismund in the field and didn't take casualties. Not to mention just the casualties you take moving an army from sickness, injury and skirmishes. The average Ottoman army of this time marches full strength 40-50,000, this is the tail end of a hard campaign with stretched supply lines. I mean his closest supply base has been under siege for months before it was relieved. Honestly I didn't realize that the Tagmata are kind of the perfect proto-blend of Gustavus, the tercios and Roman manipulars. The first is the rolling storm, the second the strong back, the third the chariot/elephant killer. It's psuedo-infantry squares while having to maintain a front line, but he has cannons that are a century ahead of most... showing the possibilities that Napoleon perfected... Gentlemen would you kindly give him a whiff of grapeshot?

You’re a master at building tension. I hadn’t realized that Constantine had the tagmatas perfecting rank fire - and from the sounds of it it’s the perfected British version not even the earliest version of it. If the tag mates are as disciplined as Constantine believes this will be a massacre and will usher in a new era of warfare 1-2 hundred years early. Fascinating stuff, can’t wait for the actual battle

Snugglepuff

You damn tease lmao
