Pretty sure the actress is ottoman, But i would say she looks relatively like a Serbian woman would (i am Serbian)

Thank you! Really glad her POV worked! it took a while to shape, digging into what little we know of her and how best to introduce her. I’m excited too for when she and Constantine finally meet!

RENAISSANSE SI

Thanks so much! Really glad it landed well! Was anxious ngl! Took me a while, both digging for what scraps exist about her and figuring out how to introduce her voice right. You raise some great points too, the idea of finally being asked what she wants, is exactly the thread I want to explore going forward.

RENAISSANSE SI

Thank you very much! Yea, both carry scars, but in different ways, and that makes their meeting point all the more interesting.

Yo, Constantine could introduce frame hives for beeking couldn't he? Im told beeswax has so much utility, not just the honey. The wax could be used for widescale food preservation.

Hey, Katarina's actually portrayed in Rise of Empires: Ottoman on Netflix. Idk how deep they dove to get physical characteristics accurately but I suppose it's the easiest way we can get to picturing her as a character.

Eriach

The abuse from what is inferred was seemingly sexual and physical in nature as shown in her hesitant nature of the marriage alliance with Constantine XI. And the marriage with Ulrich very well may have been consummated, age was not so much a factor back then as it is now. There's anecdotal evidence that marriages had been consummated as early as the child's 13-14 year of age.

Eriach

He was proposed the betrothal to secure Burgundys Knights and troops. But it was proved a moot point when Jean said their banners came regardless of the betrothal or not

Andy Worcester

I would imagine it’s as simple as her being 2 years younger than Katarina.

Ben Robbins

Interesting chapter. I honestly don't know how solid betrothals were back then, but I'd imagine they were broken regularly as practicality demanded. Constantine was betrothed to one of the Duke of Burgundy's daughters, wasn't he? But she was very young, and the crusade, such as it is, is stronger now and maybe doesn't need that marriage to solidify it. Constantine lost his first wife as well, so they'll have that in common.

Pearl of the Orient

Doubled-headed => Double-headed I'm guessing her marriage to Ulrich was never consummated. She would still have been underage when the war began. But I infer from the dialogue that Ulrich and his family were cruel and dismissive to her. Probably not physically abusive as she was still her father's property and physical abuse of a ward has legal and military consequences. families… it feels just.” It feels momentous. Just implies there is an injustice that requires correction. A coup couple of years ago A palace coup two years before Despotess is not a title for a despot's wife. Despotes is the title of the younger sons and the sons in law of the Byzantine emperor. Katarina's mother would be addressed by her personal titles or as Despoina Greek for Lady of the House. Wives do not gain the titles or the forms of addresses their husbands own.

Fantastic chapter - I really enjoyed Katarina’s POV. Her struggles and fears feel very real, and I can’t wait for her to meet Constantine. I hope they’re able to find not just happiness, but eventually love with each other.

Not that I'm opposed to Katarina X Constantine, but I'm curious now why you didn't have Constantine marry her sister Mara Brankovic? Speaking of Mara, did she end up marrying Sultan Murad II before his death or will she have a different fate?

Hugo23

The characterization of her grounding herself in the moment is what caught my eye. She reads as someone who is very much weary of the world because she's never had control over any part of her world. I'd hope Constantine's willingness to engage people on their level will let her character grow.

Hugo23

Excellent chapter, Katarina characterization was fascinating to read and very well written. Considering Constantine's many varied interest's and modern sensibilities she is in for an interesting marriage and one that will allow her to really bloom. You really hit it on the head on the hinting throughout, she hasn't had a say in her life before. She grounds herself in the moment to make sure the swirling words don't carry her away, to know that something is under her control. To be asked what would you like to do? Ecstasy

Zimojovic

Very Good chapter. With this i cant wait what interactions will Katarina and Constantine have. Both are people scared by past, either by shame/hurt or loss/betrayl.

Wen L.

Very good to see her brought in and her family's power dealing dynamic. It's nice to see these ambitious side characters like Durad and world weary characters like Katarina. These moments flesh out this timeline. It might not be love at first sight, but I think Constantine and Katarina can establish a respectful and dynamic union together. A modern marriage is a partnership of interests that attaches emotions and love after a period like fine wine aged over time to reach its fullest flavor.

RENAISSANSE SI

Glad you’re enjoying it! We only hinted here that Ulrich didn’t treat Katarina all that well in the few days they spent together, he was a soldier about to march off to war, and not exactly gentle. Thanks for reading and for the kind words!

russell marsh

Well this is going to be awkward for everyone involved, and did i miss something I was aware that Katarina married Ulrich but I don't notice that he treated her badly or I'm missing remembering things or miss reading this? Love it my good author keep it up
