🕑 Added 2025-02-23 21:33:45 +0000 UTCHey all! To start with the most important bit, I don't think I'll be able to release an early access version this month for the FET build which I'm currently working on.
I will probably release the bughunt version this month, but that's the best case scenario. I had a late start this month(because the same thing happened in January) and because the last Titan build was especially buggy! Oh and because February is simply a short month. I have enough trouble keeping things within a month on my best days so when February arrives, I'm usually guaranteed to be late. I don't think I've ever been able to catch up once I started lagging. That means I'll release the early access version sometime in the first week of March. Unless I can pull off a small miracle.
I think most of you who have been with MITY for a while probably already saw this coming.
I AM currently proceeding very nicely with the build, but I've had a few days where it was the opposite. It's been a while but I had one of my "everything I do is shit and all of this must be redone or deleted" moments.
It's something which hits me typically once or twice a year. It basically makes me deeply hate whatever I do and did in the past. I'm not saying the stuff I draw doesn't have a lot of room to grow(it does!) but this feeling I'm talking about goes waaay beyond that. It makes me feel like I have shovels for hands and had those since birth.
It's during those times I start redrawing stuff and only make it worse. I managed to shake that off again, but that mood sucks all motivation straight out of me and can last for days.
Just because that's over it doesn't mean I don't still want to improve things. When the "everything sucks" mood passes, it makes way for a more normal "this can be better" state of mind. Let me give you an example of something I have redone recently.

You might notice the way she's crossing her arms in version A isn't exactly natural looking. It looks like she broke her damn wrists!
I couldn't let that slide any longer so I've been changing that to what you see in version b. It may not be a "world shattering" improvement, but it's now less of an eyesore. I originally redid her entire idle during my bad mood and made it horrible.
But like I said already, I got that out of my system now and am enjoying drawing again while still being able to see where I can improve stuff.
Seven Havens
Another thing I'd like to talk about is ... the official announcement of a new Avatar cartoon called "Seven Havens" on the 20th year anniversary of ATLA a few days ago. Woohoooo!! No release date yet, but we have a name and a premise.
There have already been leaks and such for it a few months ago, but so far I managed to not look too deep into those. I did now though and though I haven't exactly done a deep dive I'm not certain whether I feel optimistic or not.
First of all I already have ATLA and TLOK, so anything new can be the worst of the worst and I'm still not going to be upset or badmouthing it(too much), since I already have "the prize" so to speak... but I'd still like for the new avatar cartoon to be good.
A few things I heard about it made me raise an eyebrow and foster some doubts, but we'll see as some images and more info will be released over time.
Personally, I'd still like an official up-scaled and widescreen version of avatar the last Airbender. Maybe by using AI for the brunt of the work and having real animators/artist do a cleanup afterwards? That seems doable to me with the current tech.
It would've been awesome if they had done that for the 20th anniversary, wouldn't it? Oh well...
Do I have anything else to mention of importance or otherwise... hmmm no I don't think so. Alright back to work for me! Oh wait, I see I still have a bunch of unanswered pm's Okay I'll take a crack at those first so if you've been waiting for me to reply it shouldn't take me much longer. Otherwise just pm me again.

I'm cautious about going into another Avatar series after Korra. I liked it at first but by the end of the first book after that ending after this really cool moment with Amon and her possibly having to be humbled, and we got that, it was already looking like a mess.

man i dont even care. im just excited for more. played 18titans and loved it. i hope in the new fet we can finally see some real slave training. i want to work with Jinora and ikki. im also curious on the grand end resulkt. i hope its a club were all our slaves work for us. with a butt wall and pool dances. seems like it would fit the vibe more than an island. i also hope that we get some public stuff like with toph. send jinora to work the streets to make money for us

The new series may give FET some expansion material. Since Mity hasnt decided for a new project yet, next to 18titans, this could keep the ball rolling. but first, lets wait if the new series is suitable and if it gives fitting content. im stoked.

Correct, any mental work that is sufficiently hard enough will leave the ole grey matter smoking. I've done a lot of math and art and they feel kinda samey to me because they really inform each other. Sort of the two sides/same coin. They're both based on symmetry.

I wonder if Cbob is even still around? It's been over a year since I've seen/heard anything from him. I know he had to take a back seat in the past for personal reasons and Marty learned more coding to keep the project moving. At some point after not hearing him referenced, I just assumed Marty's the only one there now. Could be wrong.

IIRC Marty does the artwork and Cbob is the coder. Your point stands that pushing yourself to destruction or burnout isn't good for yourself or your fans. I have noticed in my years on this planet that no artist or craftsman is ever satisfied with their work, they see only the flaws. As Leonardo daVinci(!) said, "Art is never finished, only abandoned."

The blurays have ghosting problems in a fair bit of season1 and some other scattered eps, try finding the community upscale torrent that fixed the bad segments as much as possible

As far as you saying you have moments of "I'm shit and everything I do is shit" I understand, that's just a bit of a creators thing with a project, being a perfectionist with your own work. but from a fan of your work I can say you have amazing art! and you have the best communication with your fans I've seen from a creator, also you have the best upload schedule,you hardly have any delays and even when you do have a delay it's not too long, compared to other creators who take months if not years to complete an update, so try not to go too hard on yourself about stuff like that (if you can) and just know when those self-deprecating episodes come, that it's more of you expecting better from yourself rather than saying your "shit" because if there's one thing that you absolutely are not it is shit sir!

Hey, you're a talented artist, don't be hard on yourself. (The only complaint I'd have regarding your art is that you tend to draw the characters chubbier than the source material, but that's more about taste than skill -- I like 'em tight and fit, some people like them more thick and soft.) I do like version B better. Without your description I'd have had trouble pinning down why, but once you pointed out the wrists being in an unnatural position it's easy to see. This is an improvement, and if it makes you happier with your game then go for it.

Yeah, you got Rei looking a lot more natural~. Maybe in one of your revisionist moods you can add in a slave girl to the missing line in Book 2? Could just make it Nami from the water tribe... Wouldn't say no to Nami with a collar. Pretty hot. As for the new Avatar announcement - from what i read I'm pretty apprehensive. The premise seems like it'll likely be more contentious even than Korra when that first came out. I came to accept Korra in time but there's no doubt it had problems. The true fact of the matter is that everything Avatar has been a downward trend from the original show/premise. Korra being a known quantity, I also read all the comics from the first "round" of stories (up to North & South) and frankly, the story telling and story decisions were just not good. Very heavy handed and ham-fisted. The art by Gurihuru was very good though. Then there's the Adult Aang trilogy of movies stuck in development hell for ages, keeps getting pushed back and (if the story I was reading was correct) they decided not to bring back the OG voices other than Dante Basco in favor of more racially-matching voice actors - which if true is the absolute height of BS. I'm going to give the movie a chance next year, but I'm only giving them the one chance. I'm not going through the slow death as a fan of another IP again 😅

a lot of people didn't notice her wrist for some odd reason lol glad you fixed it but I know what this update is really about, the new series is seven havens, we are on book 5 of the game, book 6 and 7 confirmed!

The broken wrist dilemma never bothered me, but I'm not a stickler for details for my opinion probably isn't the best, and as for the new series, I personally hope that Wan becomes prevalent, because who better to aid in the revival of a legacy than the guy who started it?

So, this happens to me. It means you don't take enough breaks. Coding like you do is an Olympic level sport and you need an off-season. I mean, who's got the money, but that anual depression and migraines thing is overworking your meaty brain self. Learn how to take a day off without thinking about your art(very hard), and interrupt your workflow like once an hour and deal with your body.
