Thanks for the chapter! Huh. Was initially thinking that Lyn was being rather heavy-handed when she was talking with Zebed, and I suppose to a degree she was, but the whole 'read between the lines' bit made it clear that she was just setting up Zebed to be the wise leader that 'spared Bashinol from the Destroyer's ire' or some such. As for Cecily's failsafe or what have you to return to Earth, I'm assuming that either Thomas managed to give her a faulty spell or he's at least told Lyn about it. And I figure, if worse comes to worse and Cecily does manage to flee to Earth with the Ruler core, Lyn will effectively be able to just follow her by doing the same or at least similar thing she did to get back to Ghomar.

It’s the end of Book 3 and meant to accomplish the time skip. Writing time skips is something I’m not super familiar with, so I just did what felt right to ensure I had every character set up for the next book. EDIT: surprisingly, there were not many guides to writing time skips.

Not a massive fan of the format of this chapter. It reads like a list. I suppose the point was to update the reader on what all the characters were up to at the end of the book, but it's a little jarring. Enjoying the story though, keep up the good work

My beta readers were not disappointed with the outcome of the storylines (all 4 of them). So I think the ending will be satisfactory.

This is my own personal view on things but I stand by the idea that realistically this should be entirely one sided and Cecily will have no choice but to at least attempt to flee back to earth. as it seems laid out. though I can't imagine lyn actually letting her get away with that.

The artifact Cecily has is a big reason for her confidence. That dagger. You’ll see what it does soon enough. It’s why she is so confident.

but that was also under a different situation. Lyns guard was almost completely down against Volio and he did it slowly and subtly. The way Cecily speaks she just plans on walking right up to Lyn and dominating her on the spot completely convinced of her magical superiority. Lyns guard will be up against Cecily and I assume by the time lf their meeting Lyn will have the Oracle core anyways and be able to just see into the future. I would also assume Lyn will have at least basic knowledge of what the Ruler core does and can do aswell as the knowledge that Cecily does have a lot of magic power even if its limited in use.

That is a fair criticism. She was always meant to be a foil to Lyn. Lyn has conviction in her beliefs, whereas Cecily does not necessarily have that same conviction. I could have put more emphasis on her as a villainess - but she wasn’t the focus of the narrative. Granted, she would have been easier to flesh out if she had, for instance, taken Thomas or another character (like Trisha) captive AFTER we’d met those other characters, so we would get that close-perspective of Cecily’s actions and reasoning, that does not come from her as the POV character of the scene.

I feel like Cecily hasn't done much in that aspect because what makes that kind of villain work in my opinion is the dread behind their every move. The best villain I have ever read that had this kind of thing going was Gabriella from displaced, and to give you an idea on how good she worked as a villain, when she was on screen my hands shaked and my blood pressure dropped as if I was on the wilds nearby a predator. For all Cecily barks, she has no bite, no moment where you say to yourself "Oh god she actually believes what she says and will act upon those beliefs" and that's due two reasons, the first one I've already said before, but it never changed, and that's the fact she doesn't feel neither a threat nor able to be the villain Lyn needs and the second reason is that her current methods and rethoric clash with her education and original character (Sure you can blame the core for the personality change, but I digress) so the reader gets with the feeling "She is a narcissistic clown that neither believes what she is saying nor has the bite to do anything about it" and that's underwhelming. Well I feel like a broken record, but I will say it again, a good villain makes or breaks the story, and none of the characters introduced have the substance of a GOOD villain. Sure in the comments people goad on feelings along the lines of "oh man these bums are evil and I want them to crash and burn" but no one feels like they are of consequence.

To be fair Volio almost got her. Now that mindfucks became an effective way to get her, I assume heavy counters would be devised but precedent states that Cecily was kinda of right on the money on how to "train the dragon"

The end I found to be satisfactory to write. So hopefully it is just as good to read.

Kory really is confident about Cecily standing a chance in this fight. He is as blind as the rest though I guess they have no idea that Lyn has been collecting hero cores like pokemon. I will be very surprised if this goes down a route of Cecily even posing a minor threat to Lyn when they come face to face.

Seras Streams

There’s a reason why Cecily is written the way she is. I wanted a villainess who is the ‘holier than thou’ mentality where they’re always in the right, and constantly think they’re the ‘OP main character’. A good juxtaposition to Lyn.

Duke of Coffee

(She knew that if she laid eyes on this Destroyer…she could utterly thrall them to her will.) *Breaks though the wall.* Are you sure about that?
