Thanks for the chapter! Hmm... Cecily's entire military being armed with guns and cannons is concerning... And her whole messed up VEROG plan seemingly coming to fruition is concerning as well. (Although... wouldn't her using VEROG make her lose access to her 'escape to her Earth' failsafe? Maybe I'm misunderstanding something there though.) Conversely, it's refreshing to see that James is not only being a good husband, a good father, and a good king, but is also looking to earn recognition as a hero in the right way. Also glad to see that Ben and Trisha came around to giving their hero cores to Lyn. Hopefully the Guardian and Healer cores will stabilize things a bit for her. And finally, Lyn saying "I serve my people." just emphasizes the difference to me between her and Cecily when it comes to their whole 'All will serve.' mentality. Cecily means/intends for all to serve her, obviously. But Lyn intends for everyone, including herself, to serve for the betterment of all.

I’m enjoying this so much, also is it the kingdom of fosk or foks? The kingdom was referred to as fosk in chapter 12 of book two and before. Edit: The Race is also called Foskor so I think this is a typo

Is there something stopping Cecily from just walking around the content and turning everyone against Lyn? Or just creating disorder with random mental affects with everyone on the continent? Why didn't Lyn industrialize?

Wooo! I wonder who the last Core will be... Cecily? Or Lawrence? I feel like Lawrence is going to have to fall in battle or something unless Lyn can give him the benefits of the Shifter core. I wonder if the Abyss isn't related to the splitting of the original god? I imagine splitting yourself in 2 did something not great

Maybe that is an interesting sequel idea. A story of romance and tragedy.

Honestly, the whole "Soulmate" thing feels a little messed up depending on how it works, mostly because Ben and Trisha probably won't remember this life when they get reborn. I mean, even with all the precautions, ensuring that the "Soulmates" get reborn close to one another and within a year or two of one another. Even then, there is the chance that for one of them, the family decides to move to a different town or city before teh Soulmates ever get to meet, simply because they are both still infants. All of a sudden, you have two people who are probably going to be chronicly depressed because they feel like there is something essential in their life that they are missing. And even if that doesn't happen, there is absolutely no way to guarantee that one of them WON'T grow up to be an abusive asshole. Sure, Lyn is doing her best to get people like that punished, but even she will have a much harder time dealing with it if the victim defends the abuser because they are "Soulmates" by way of magic. Sure, the whole thing sounds romantic, until you think about the fact that once Ben and Trisha are dead, it will have a very permanent effect on a lot of people after them that AREN'T Ben and Trisha, simply sharing the same soul.

Yes, there is a reason. It will be revealed later on. (And yes, she COULD just fly over, nuke Cecily’s palace, and then dig through the remains to find her corpse - but that type of story is not nearly as satisfying to read about).

Knight_Redundant

Is there a reason Lyn didn't just go to Valagonia grab Cecily and pass judgement on her? I mean she has no reason to believe that Cecily is too powerful for her to handle, and literally everyone not under her geas hates her guts.

Yup! Chonky boys for Book 4. Because I didn’t want to chop them up into 2.5k words. To me, the war is easier when you can go 1 chapter = 1 ‘phase’ of the war.
