Thanks for the chapter! Welp. Cecily's going to be in for a nasty surprise when she discovers that mind magic doesn't work on Lyn. That said... I do feel that it's pretty convenient for Lyn to get outright immunity to what is arguably Cecily's main advantage. I mean, I suppose it makes sense for a god/dess, or soon to be goddess as the case may be, to be overpowered in ways beyond just sheer destructive might, but... I was honestly looking forward to Lyn having to be smart/clever to circumvent Cecily's mind magic. Ah well. Cecily's reaction to her mind magic failing to affect Lyn ought to be satisfying all the same. As for the failed assault by Sigurd and her force... Hmm... I kind of feel like Lyn's side should've been better prepared for it, specifically in that I feel they should've been aware of the possibility of Sigurd using the sewer tactic that she used to break into the palace and set some kind of trap or countermeasure for that, but... I'm probably overestimating Lyn's side. Superior power, competence, and foresight do not equate to perfection after all. (Also Bolvon almost dying did serve as a reminder for me that it's only Lyn that's borderline invincible/unstoppable.) Also, I appreciated the moment at the very end that I can only assume was inspired by Overlord. Very nice. (Although, admittedly, it was a bit soured for me as I've been perceiving Sigurd as something of a victim of Cecily's. Ah well...)

I can check out Dark Matter Ascension. As an astrophysicist, the name has me intrigued. No promises tho and I might not start reading it till a little over a week from now (I've got an exam coming up).

Understood. TYVM for the feedback. Thus far no one else has raised this concern - but perhaps yours will be the one that acts as the opening of the floodgate for criticism. Again, isn't something that is wrong. Sure, it's an ego blow - but it is feedback and I'm always open to criticism when it is useful and presented in a way that is constructive. So thank you for not just' bashing' and saying "This sucks and here's why." You at least justify your critiques which is far more than many readers would normally contribute. I also know that character work is something I need to improve on (an agent friend of mine told me as much: the main reason they didn't want to represent me at this time was because they thought my character work needed improvement). They suggested several author-written guides that I should read to improve my character work, and that was AFTER I had finished writing Books 1 and 2 of Ruinous Return (remember, I relabeled them, so this would be 'after' Books 1-4 were written before the re-label). So, thank you for the critiques, know that they are harsh but fair, I understand them, and I do know that I have room to grow as an author. After you finish Ruinous Return, I would highly value any criticism you can provide on Dark Matter Ascension, as that is the 'current' ongoing project. That was written AFTER I read those other author-written guides to character. You obviously have a good understanding of character and can present such criticism in a justified way which in turn makes it easier for me to understand how I could improve in the eyes of my readers. If I want to make author work a full-time affair, I need to learn what readers do / do not like, and then make adjustments. For more rapid response/correspondence, Discord is the better option - but I will be happy to keep reading and responding to your comments here on Patreon.

Just in case you didn't see, I made a large edit to the comment. I didn't realize you replied to the original one, sorry. Also again, I know the rest of the comment is pretty harsh, so sorry about that. It's mainly intended to give criticism and help make you aware of areas that you can look at for improvement. But also keep in mind that I'm only focusing on the negatives of the story, and there are so many positive things I could say about the story, I just didn't. I should have, but I didn't. Anyways, tbh, its your story and this is just my opinion. It could be an outlier, or it could be the common consensus, it's up to you to figure that out.

It is explained later on in this Book as to why the abyss was not characterized as a proper noun despite it being integrated into every single language across Ghomar. I can guarantee you that hints about the abyss have been present throughout the story, and when it is revealed what is IN the abyss? The pieces click together.

This abyss thing just feels like it was randomly added to book 4. I don't recall the abyss ever being mentioned before (despite it being a common swear), and it's extremely hard to believe that Thomas never asked about it before. Edit: I just finished reading the chapter, and there is only one word that can describe the characters of this chapter. Incompetent. Utterly incompetent. When they found out Cecily had guns, the heros should have started preparing for trench warfare. Given Lyn can make the wall of China in a day, there is no reason she can't make an entire field of trenches. Cecily already knows Lyn has united everyone, there is no point in Lyn hiding (which was by itself already not the best of choices). And Lyn could 100% make a tank. Hell, she can sneeze out a lake of lava and swim in it like it's a hot tub. She probably doesn't even need to heat up the metal, she could probably bend it into place with sheer strength alone. When Sigrund attacked, it was complete and absolute incompetence to not call Lyn immediately (or even have a designated Lyn caller). And it's dumb that Lyn brought Gael onto the boat. Just annihilate the boat with a fire breath and be done with it. She is wasting time when her people need immediate medical attention and the civilians need to immediately see a leader to stop civil unrest. I'm sorry, I've loved reading this story, and I know I'm being pretty harsh, but this final book has been a disappointment. The first, second, and most of the third books were built on the foundation of realism, that there are no perfect characters. That these characters were smart. And that the character flaws weren't going to be glorified. But I don't see that in book 4. All I see are two dictators, mind controlling their people, and claiming they have the best intentions. The only difference is one is pretty racist and uses larger scale mind control, and we are supposed to like the other one. Additionally, none of the characters feel real anymore, it all just feels 2D. Most of the characters we follow just feel like extensions of Lyn. There is no one who thinks differently than Lyn or disagrees with her, anyone who did was killed off, with the exception of Brad (with his own plans of making that virus). And as for Lyn and the conflict, just send a gamma ray burst to Cecily and be done with it. I know you replied to someone else's comment saying that it won't be entertaining, but neither is watching all the characters be extremely dumb. All im feeling with every chapter is a growing frustration over the growing lack of thought for a story I care about. If you didn't want an MC to one shot the villain and quickly overcome the main challenge, then you should have designed a better antagonist when you planned the story. There are plenty of things that an overpowered protagonist can't solve with pure strength and magic. And I hope in future works you improve on how you design characters. You did an easy out with the heros in this story, you just gave everyone an extreme flaw and killed off/magiced the issue away for most instead of character growth and dealing with past trauma. Any character that did grow did so behind the scenes (Lawrence, Ben, and Trisha). The closest we got was James. You have shown a great potential as an author, but most of what you did with the characters was cheap. I only hope for you to grow more as an author skilled in making flawed characters who are real. PS. I'm also pretty surprised that there isn't any intelligent/sentient aquatic life given the world is a pangeia and given the number of different sentient races. That's a lot of water to just be empty.

High school sweethearts But there was a whole 5 years in Ghomar and then the 10 year ‘time skip’. A lot can happen when your world turns upside down and you get amazing powers and new abilities and are almost deified in the people’s praises. I left a lot hidden in the past PRECISELY for this reason - theorycrafting and it keeps people guessing.

John Anastacio

I'm astonished - I thought those two were together from the start. Have to wonder which of the (living) men was the best in bed, haha. Thanks Seras.

Seras Streams

Idk subvert your expectations. After all - Lyn will be present.

Duke of Coffee

Lol someone watched first season of Overlord. Anyway let see magic vs modern day weaponry.

Crushing to death? Not copyright. The whole speech? Sure. But I mean it’s just a brutal death. And Gael does it far faster than Overlord-Senpai did

It’s not explicitly laid out: But Lyn went a bit ‘wild’ when she had first arrived in Ghomar. Treated like royalty and hailed as ‘heroes who would save the world’ let’s just say drinks were flowing and mistakes were made. Ben + Trisha had a…what’s the word…rough patch when they first got transported.

CinderXE

damn she got clementined

John Anastacio

I would have thought Ben was monogamous with Trisha. Did Lyn sleep with him and Brad, Kory and James, too?

Cosmoros Subs

I call a copyright infringment on that death. Someones been watching Overlord xD
