Correction: "Lawrence was not like the other students who were raised in somewhat religious environs." It should be 'environments'

Interesting guess…

I'm hoping opening the abyss ends up actually being needed for Lyn's ascension. My guess is that the original god either did not split properly or split into 3 and the dark parts/3rd part became the abyss.

Yeah. A lot of people don’t realize that meteors are both FAST and MASSIVE. To get nuclear-bomb-level explosions, we’re looking at dozens of megatons of TNT, not pounds of TNT. And nuclear-bomb-level explosions aren’t anywhere near extinction level events lol. Obviously the kind of strike she’s wanting to pull off here isn’t quite at that level, but judging by your description I believe maybe a 1 megaton explosion might be what you were going for. To impart that much energy, well, she’d have to have sped up to roughly 10,000,000 m/s. Or roughly 0.0333 c. Of course, if she weighed more or could magically increase her mass, that would bring the speed down, but we’re still talking about insanely ludicrous speeds. Earth orbits the sun at about 30,000 m/s, and we’re talking about 10 million m/s lol. Just because humans don’t weigh that much, all things considered. It also gives you an appreciation for just how much energy explosives like TNT hold.

*chewing popcorn* it’s something unexpected but has been foreshadowed 6 times during the narrative. It’s been subtle, though, except 1 overt / concrete bit of foreshadowing.

Good to know for the next time she pulls off such a feat XD Thank you for the science lesson. I dread the corrections I’ll see on Dark Matter Ascension when I try to wrangle some real world science into it. (And by dread I look forward to learning)

I missed the line about removing wind resistance. Yes that would remove terminal velocity. I’m going to make a lot of assumptions to give you a rough idea, but assuming this planet is similar to earth and she flew up and fell from the edge of space, she’d be falling roughly 100 km at 9.8 m/s^2. Using the third equation of motion (v^2 = u^2 + 2as), we can determine that her final velocity would be about 1400 m/s. Assuming she weighs around 77 kg (average adult female weight), then she would impart roughly 75 million joules of energy on impact. A pound of TNT is roughly 2 million joules, so we’re looking at an explosion of around 37ish pounds of TNT. Not insignificant if you wanted to land on a small building and demolish it, but not anywhere in the ballpark of causing tsunamis. I know it’s a fantasy story, with magic and all that, but “Falling from space automatically == meteor strike” is a common misconception I see a lot in fiction that slightly irks me. You don’t have to change anything, leave the chapter as it is an 99% of people won’t know the difference, and of those who do, most will not care. I just wanted to spread a little info about this common misconception :)

Cecily seems completely desperate now. She going full "if I can't have it, no one can", willing to sacrifice anyone, innocent or not to achieve her goal of standing at the top. Too bad her followers are still too much brainwashed even without her ruler's core influence. I'm curious to see what will she finds in the abyss.

She DID use a spell to remove the wind resistance in front of her. Which should remove terminal velocity limitations, I think? I’m not a scientist so if you do know the answer then I’m all ears. But it made sense when I wrote it. Pertinent text about the spell: she cast a simple barrier spell that would prevent all impact from affecting her body directly, entwined with verses that removed the air in front of her to remove any wind resistance.

One note, about section 4: Simply falling from space is not enough to have a “rods from god” meteor-like impact. If you teleported something up to space and simply let it fall, it would reach terminal velocity and that’s it. No burning up, no huge crater or explosion. Most of the time. The edge of space is simply not that high up, and falling from it does not gain you enough speed and kinetic energy for a devastating strike. No, when something from space enters the atmosphere, starts burning, and leaves a crater, it’s because it was going ***FAST***. Orbital velocities, interplanetary, or even interstellar velocities. If something is in orbit around the planet, it is traveling very fast to be able to orbit. For example, the ISS is going roughly 17.5 thousand miles per hour. That’s almost Mach 23. Simply flying up to the edge of space and then free falling would not have a meteor effect. Barring magic to increase your kinetic energy (speed and/or mass).
