I dunno if we were successful in that plan!
It's a bit of a failed attempt to do something less "cheapshow" like and something more informal, as with all my plans, they don't exactly pan out. However, we do learn a lot about Australian novelty music!
I just wanted to try something informal - but should have done it on a day when Eli wasn't moody and we both weren't a little tipsy from our walkabout filming session!
It obviously goes off the rails!
We're gonna be back before the end of the month with a more structured Crapbook episode.... that will be for the $10+ folk!

I think these are the records I sent in a while ago - I couldn't remember the specifics of what I sent in but the combo of moog tequila and godawful Australian songs sounds about right. I don't think Hot Butter are Aussie - probably explains why it's the only good one of the bunch! From memory the other two you didn't play are self-released singles that seem to be promoting various small-town festivals - I thought they were a bit strange but the songs on them are probably worth less than the plastic they're pressed into. Ian McNamara (or 'Macca') is a radio presenter on the ABC; mostly just does talkback radio for old rural people. Not sure I would consider him a 'national treasure'! As for what a Cobar line is - Cobar is a regional town so I assume he's singing about the railway line to Cobar; from what I can find online, the washing seems to have something to do with a flood in the area but I'm not really sure on the precise details there. Another note on bogans - they are the Australian equivalent of the chav, but it is also the name of a river and council area out near Cobar which I assume he's singing about. One of the towns has a Big Bogan statue as a tourist attraction - one of Australia's many big things.
