Earfun Free Pro 2 or 3?
🕑 Added 2023-08-25 11:17:05 +0000 UTCRecently I was negotiating with Earfun regarding a tuning for the Free Pro 3 by me. But they just offer the option of a 10-band EQ with the default tuning being already pretty bad, thus I cannot offer anything usable for that model unfortunately. I tried convincing them to create the basic tuning on my own, with additional "presets" by them, or offer a fully parametric EQ, or improve their basic tuning by adding some additional filters, but they didn't want to.
I will still try to create something makeshift as they will pay for it and I need that money, because with Patreon alone I just cannot survive right now, but I can't recommend the Free Pro 3 for sound quality, although I am pretty sure many will still like it for it's heavy bass.
Therefore I will still try to create something for the running out Free Pro 2 based on the neutral tuning I posted here.
I decided to cover the most common ear canal resonances based on this poll here. I have 8 units and will measure them all, also try finding the spikes to sort those out and finally create an average of all usable units and create 6 different settings for ear canal resonances from 6000hz to 7300hz. These are the most common ones it would seem and I should cover more than 70% of users like this. It will be some work to finish everything and I hope to be able to post something in September for the enthusiast level.
For others with their ear canal resonance not covered I would kindly ask to contact me directly, and I could create a custom setting for them.

You can use any kind of tone generator to detect the loudest peak you hear with a particular unit. The Free Pro and Free Pro 2 raw response have a noticeable peak at the given ear canal resonance, other earbuds may have those less noticeable though.
Any useful ios-app for detecting the earcanal resonance?

With the Free Pro 2 you have the option to make it sound like anything thanks to the fully parametric EQ, there are still very few IEMs which offer this option. The nothing ear 2 also have a fully parametric EQ but only 8 filters, there are other IEMs as well which you can access through the HearID app but as far as I remember the Q factor range is quite limited there and doesn’t allow for high Q-factors. The Free Pro 3 won’t allow that customisability. I am still solely using the Free Pro 2 with my latest settings which I will try to fine tune to give better results with other units.
This is quite poignant for me. I’ve just lost one bud and I’m now contemplating my next move. Another Free Pro 2 or something else…? I’ve massively enjoyed my experience with both Pro 1 & 2. But open to some sound advice if anyone can spare some?

It seems to have issues with iOS, doesn’t play cleans the bass is just a droning mess
I would also buy the Free Pro 3. Bought almost everything on your recommendation or personal tuning so far (Vifa Helsinki, Uboom L, Anker Soundcore Q30, some other stuff). Was quite happy with everything always. I've also been looking for perfect sound for years, "Oluvsound" impresses me again and again.
I am quite new here. Anyone can tell me how to apply this setting to the earbuds?

Still a happy Earfun Free Pro 2 user. I'm currently on your "Reference" tune and was also happy with the "Neutral" tune before that. I'm looking forward to your next version.. appreciate what you do, Oluv! I'm excited for the day you finally find a suitable manufacturer to work with, and create something truly awesome and unique :)
I completely understand where you are coming from. I also have the Earfun Air Pro 3. Also that model comes with so much bass it was impossible for me to tune it down with just -10 dB reduction via the app. Also on that model there's a weird midrange when trying to reduce some frequencies. It could be better with the EarFun Free Pro 3. You can also do so much with eartips. I do have some Moondrop String tips. Those are not a great fit for me, but they reduce bass a lot, because the tip material is so loose and they don't seal well in the ear. I have ordered a lot of different eartips a while ago to experiment. I couldn't get a pleasant sound with the EarFun Air Pro 3 despite those efforts. That is not the same IEM though - a different one from EarFun also really bass heavy.
