Yeah we gotta admit that its a bit dumb that he cannot be with her as boyfriend because he is trying to protect her but it is somehow okay to be friends. Villain like Goblin could easily target friends as much as girlfriends. Still doesn't change that it is great and entertaining movie.

It's always been a part of Peter's character that he has to keep his loved ones safe by not being too close to them. If she were with him, he'd want to tell her who he is but he can't do that because she'd be in danger. So he has to basically put her in the friend zone even though he loves her so much. But that's his curse. The safety of his loved ones are more important than his own desires. Thats pretty admirable. I cannot wait until Spider-Man 2! It's easily the best spiderman movie ever!
