Unseen Scene—Book Three, Chapter 6 (Felix version)
🕑 Added 2023-01-19 13:59:00 +0000 UTCIt’s magic, for sure. Of all of Unit Bravo, Felix is the most adept at picking up on that kind of thing.
It shimmers and tickles at his senses, like a solidifying bubble he can’t pop.
But he tries anyway.
He pushes his fingertips against the invisible barrier, the magic thick but with a slight goopy kind of softness. As he presses a little harder, a headache begins to form and throb at his temples, so he snaps his hand back.
“Your attempts to save the human are admirable,” the winged-giant announces.
His dismissive use of the word ‘human’ to describe the person Felix is falling for so quickly irks the young vampire already.
“But they are pointless,” he continues.
Ah great. Another huge ego. As if another one’s gonna fit in this town with Adam’s.
Though maybe this guy’s ego is warranted. His barrier is tough. It’s strange magic and seriously strong. As well as Felix being able to feel immense power radiating out of the man himself.
Felix blows away the thought and focuses his gaze on the winged man. “You say that now, but wait until we get going.” He adds a grin to the end of the words, but it’s anywhere near as confident as usual.
Yet it’s more than enough to gain his attention. And any focus he can draw away from [Name] is worth it.
The thought of [Name] drives a stake of worry through Felix’s chest, almost immobilising him. Everyone keeps trying to steal them from Felix’s life…as though he hasn’t already lost enough!
Emotion powers through his paralysis. Determination breaks the walls of fear.
And Felix launches himself forward with a yell towards the barrier.
…
He sees the flash before he feels it. Flying through the air at speed, his body clocks the fact that this is going to end seriously painfully, so he balls himself up. But the wallop he smacks into the ground with still ricochets with a thunder of exploding pain through every nerve.
For a moment, he wonders if he’ll be able to breathe.
“Felix!” [Name]’s voice battles its way through the agony to force air into his lungs. He may not need the oxygen, but damn does it feel good as it courses through him again.
The sudden rush of air is enough to help focus his vision, allow him to witness the scene that plays out in slow motion before him. Each gesture is made with agonizing slowness, as though taunting him with the fact he can do nothing about it.
With wings that cut through the night like a pair of scimitars, the man leaps and glides towards [Name]. Intention pours off of him so strongly that it coats Felix’s throat. It tastes vile.
Felix’s ears buzz as his body begins to restart itself, begins to heal the crushed bone and inner bruising that makes him wince with each breath. Whatever [Name] and the winged giant are saying, he can’t hear it, even as he wishes with all his might that he can.
And then [Name] slams their palms into the man’s chest.
Not the barrier.
But onto the man himself.
Not even the winged-man’s overcompensatingly-sized wings can help him as he stumbles back and topples over.
Felix stares unblinking at the scene before making to let out a holler of excitement. But the excited call strangles in his tight throat as pain throbs down his side, forcing him to roll onto his back.
And he allows himself the time to recover, lying on his back, smiling up at the star-riddled sky.
As he heals, he thinks. And it’s impossible to think of anyone but [Name]. A flood of warm energy rushes through him at the mere mention of them to quicken his healing even further.
If he was going to fall for anyone as hard as he has…then an ass-whooping human from this little town was definitely the best choice.

Oh gosh I love F so much. "Everyone keeps trying to steal them from Felix’s life…as though he hasn’t already lost enough!" that part really hit me, it's always very easy to see how much the detective means to F but it was really amplified by the situation. That F took his time to catch his breath and look up at the sky with a smile...oh my heart....my poor soft heart. F don't worry, my detective will always be with you🥰

It was really interesting to see how much the magic affected F - compared to N and M - more intense as they’re a natural vampire? Love how much the detective just has F all 🥰🥰 they’re so proud and enamored. It’s so sweet to see!
