Unseen Scene....I couldn't help writing this...
🕑 Added 2024-09-26 13:00:13 +0000 UTC“We should get them a puppy,” Rook announces as he brings their child to his face and rubs his nose to theirs. He’s the perfect picture of father and child cuddling together on the wide living room sofa.
“No.”
Rook’s mouth falls open as he holds their child close. “How can you be so cruel to deny them a childhood pet?”
“They’re two weeks old,” Rebecca reminds him, folding her arms as she readjust herself in her armchair.
Rook’s faux shock drops instantly as he makes to stand.
She holds up a hand. “I’m fine. You can’t look after both me and our child.”
“Ok, that sounds a lot like you’re doubting my multitasking abilities.” He wrinkles his brows together as he sits back down. “Which I will take offence to later, after I finally convince you to let our bundle of happiest joy have a puppy.”
“Then I’m glad you’ll never be taking offence as that is never going to happen.”
“Is it because you’re a cat person?” he asks with pursed lips, turning to look at their baby. “Don’t hold that against her, [Name].”
Rebecca rolls her eyes. “I’m not an animal person.”
Rook inhales an offended breath and covers the baby’s ears, a motion that-had Rebecca done it-she knows would have had them crying. But instead, with Rook, they are quiet. Peaceful.
“We won’t ever be divulging that fact to them,” Rook whispers.
She tenses, cutting her gaze away. “There are many things we won’t be able to divulge to them.”
Rook kisses their baby’s chubby cheek. “Another thing I need to convince you of.”
“You would want to expose them to that world?” Rebecca snaps, flinging a hand out.
He stands, cradling the baby in his arms as he moves with annoying calm to her side and rests a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t over exert yourself.”
She takes a breath at his offered comfort.
“I want them to be fully aware of the world we live in,” he replies, leaning down to press a kiss on Rebecca’s cheek too. She sags in relief, sinking deep into the cushions of the chair. “Let me get you some tea.”
He hands [Name] to Rebecca, who cradles their child close, staring down into their tiny perfect features.
She has felt protective over many things in her life, it’s why she went into the job she’s in, but nothing makes her more scared than bringing this child, this piece of her heart, into the dangerous world Rook is so keen to throw them into…
