The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update+ 23/August/2024

Write some more to the chapter, obviously, lol! :D
But it’s been nice and easy to do! I think splitting this plan up into scenes rather than chapters has made such a difference. Instead of worrying about how taking some from the next chapter to add to this one will affect the upcoming chapter, it was easy just to look at the next scene and decide where to end it that would work to finish this chapter better!
I’m part way through the finishing scene, as it involves the love interests, so I need to add in variations throughout to make sure it all plays out smoothly. I’ve definitely put an uptick in romance in this one, which I know is an odd statement considering Wayhaven is focused on romance as the main thing, lol! But I just want that feeling in this one that things are really pushing forwards on that front.
Especially to put us in the place we need to be for the angsty intensity of Book Five…
One of the things I’ve really loved about editing and playing through this chapter is the interaction with the other teams, hehe :D I had a blast writing them all, but it was a lot with writing the different versions of those for each of the three teams, as well as the choices and stat increases in those different scenes.
But playing through these types of intense-to-write scenes always makes me realise how much it’s worth the effort though! And should make it fun to replay with the differences not just in which team you might get but also how you approach the things they’re asking you!
I currently have which team you get set to random, but I may change it to a choice depending on how my readers feel about it. I do like random just because it adds a little surprise element to the narrative, lol!
I should have the addition to the ending chapter finished tomorrow with how well it’s already flowing today, which means I can dive straight back into editing and rewrites!

For Update+ this week, it’ll be interesting to see how the MC adapts to being treated less like a human and more like, well, a supernatural in this book…

Yes! Some of my detectives/agents definitely do not need powers, because that's just an extra stressful thing on their plate. Some of my other detectives/agents, however, need these powers to last the whole series, LOL! Totally awesome upgrade!

I just came on here to suggest this as well! I love the idea of randomness for the first runthroughs with each RO, but I also know I want to see certain combinations based on the RO (A with Unit Alpha, M with Unit Victor, etc.) that might be more difficult if the setup was always random.

M-mancers aren't too far behind you. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 we have to deal with a stupid M, who has no clue what they feel. At least A has said how they feel, even if they're stubbornly fighting it. We get M acting like they're with the MC, until they decide to blame MC for intentionally attacking them or calling them a slam pig or reminding them that they aren't together, then running away when someone says they're with the MC. That should make b5 angst even more fun.... well, not really, but that's what we get for romancing lobotomized M.

I'm betting the powers will be gone by the end of b4, since it's imperative the MC remains human until the end. They'll be back to their powerless self come b5, just in time to be emotionally rofflestomped by the LI, lol. MC isn't allowed to have nice things!

I second this! Being able to choose in the beginning setup choices whether or not the team is chosen or randomized would be helpful. I'd also enjoy it random my first go round, but after that I'd like to ensure I get to meet the other two teams without risking replaying the whole enormous first few chapters just to get a team I've already had before!

Oh! QUESTION! Are these newfound powers of ours going to be permanent for the duration of the series, or will they be resolved in some way when we defeat or deal with the B4 enemy? That way I know whether or not to get attached to the idea of these powers, LOL...

Wonderful update as usual! I thought though - about the randomization of teams - maybe it can be chosen at the setup of the game? E.g. let the game randomly choose team vs user chooses team, cause from my perspective for the first play through I would love random, but upon multiple replays Id wanna be sure I managed to get them all.

Ya know. I don’t think I fully fathomed that since we’re on Book 4 that Book 5 is now going to be looming behind us. Menacingly. :D Ha ha, we’re in danger! I cannot wait to meet the new team and revisit the others! Meeting new Units is one of my favorite parts of Wayhaven <3 and oooooh, I guess we are a bit of a supernatural now huh…
