Blondie, huh? Anyway, the two other Origins that didn't make it into the game are country girl and outlander.

SallyWhitemane

Thank you for your reply ! The reasons are totally understandable but Selene's Northerner ethnos was very fine, let's hope one day we will see her. What were the other two origins considered?

Defiant Explorer

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't be a spoiler to say Selene will meet them. But when, where, and under what circumstances would be a spoiler, so I won't say anything about that. Also, it won't be a spoiler that her reaction will range from curiosity to fear (this will be a roleplay aspect and player choice). After all, it will be the first time she sees people so very different from her or the peoples she is familiar with. So a poker face would not be appropriate here. Well, except that the Heiress will probably react a bit more restrained. After all, she's seen Khull and his Black Phalanx, albeit only a couple of times and from a distance.

Best regards to you, D.E.!-✌️-! I hope all is good for you. Well, yes, I did miss these last two portraits. Hmm... I'd just say that the difference in "pigmentation" is VERY visible here! Brief, I believe that I understand your explanations, especially when you say: < this kind of remarkability would create a lot of plot problems. > And then; the fact that the backups would be broken... Indeed, it's not cool at all!!!! Afterwards, as far as I'm concerned, rather than playing the role of the "foreigner" (northerner or southerner, whatever), I'd prefer that my Selene to have the opportunity to meet these rare "exotic" (for the Valatean Republic) individuals. In any event, I truly wish this will happen in the future updates! [-🤞+🙏-] -xD.

Thankee! Originally, there were 6 Ethnoses and 6 Origins planned for the game. But in the end that left 4 and 4 respectively. And, thank the gods that I made that decision regarding Origins... I can barely cope with 4, because the Origins give the most variety in terms of unique options, each of which takes a lot of time to work out. But the other 2 Ethnos didn't make it into the game for slightly different reasons. And, by the way, those were just the options for Selene the Northerner, and the Southerner. I even have preliminary portrait options still left. I can't attach them here, so I'll update the text itself with them. It will give some visualization, so to speak. One of the reasons I decided against them is the monstrous amount of work involved in dealing with the reactions of others, to someone who looks nothing like them at all. After all, this is a Bronze Age level society, not modern times. Here, the section “V. Seething Youth and the War” from the Heiress' memoirs will give a better understanding. Or Meia's (a widow with three children from chapter one) reaction to Selene with the Ranalian ethnicity. There... a much stronger reaction than to Selene with the other three available ethnicities. And... Just imagine a provincial village from the first chapter, where a blue-eyed blonde with light skin or, on the contrary, a brunette darker than any Yardanari comes. The whole village would gather around her. Some with curiosity. And some with fear and hatred. Poor Iolanta would have to fight her way through the crowd to make Selene her proposal... Not to mention that such a reaction would have followed Selene everywhere she went. In every encounter with almost every new person. This doesn't fit well with both the 4 available Origins and further along in the story... that kind of "noticeability" would create a lot of plot problems. So in answer to the question of whether there are plans to add (or rather bring them back into the game as originally planned) more diversity, the answer is - unlikely. Right now, such an addition would require reworking entire scenes (especially the first introductions to everyone), which, if done, would break current saves, because there would be too many new dialog variables. But theoretically, as an add-on, and after the game is finalized.... Well, yeah. Very theoretically, yet quite possible. But that's a long way off.

SallyWhitemane

Congratulations and thank you for this game, which in my opinion is one of the best of its kind on this platform. And this kind of publication allows you to really immerse yourself in it. You mention more minorities in this post, in particular Northerners and Southerners. Do you plan to add more origins to Selene at some point? More diversity is always good! Good luck with the rest!

Defiant Explorer

In the game, I want that all of the elements to contribute to immersion in the story. Here, outside, I can write something like "this is not feudal nobility". But in the game, how can the characters know about feudalism if it hasn't been invented yet? Well, and a lot of other things like that. An encyclopedia with encyclopedic references will break immersion just as badly as the characters' awareness of, I dunno, genes, gravity, or equal rights in the inappropriate for this era. If you've been paying attention, even the hyperlinks in the game are built as Selene's thoughts on this or that matter and what she might know about it. Not exact data at all. Sorry about frogs. I wasn't thinking.

DamnedFrog

Very interesting! I think you should add some encyclopedia to the game for that sort of knowledge. But I must said I disagree with that paragraph "The other Great Houses were given much smaller but much more attractive lands, with fertile lands, forests, navigable rivers, and other more useful things than a huge swamp with a bunch of frogs". How a land can be more attractive than a huge swamp with plenty of frogs?! :-)

Lonely Wolf

Okay, I understand, thanks for your reply! It is a "holy land" completely separate from political issues if I'm not mistaken... Anyway, we feel that your lore is very well developed; I like it! Keep it up, D.E.!! Well, I'll stop bothering you now with my questions, cause I imagine you have other cats to whip up!!! [^-😽-^] See you soon then and good fortitude to you the friend;-👍).

Defiant Explorer

Sacred Island is where the Heptagon (the main temple of the True Gods in the eastern branch of the religion) and the residence of the Oracle (sort of like the local Pope) are located. It is also the only official land of the Divine Dominion, not to be confused with the Velastian Dominion. The first is a religious movement (sort of like Catholicism or Orthodoxy in Christianity) and the second is a political entity, the name of the country.

Lonely Wolf

Ha! Yes, you're right of course: it's indeed a geographical confusion, but on my part!-😅-! This passage caught my attention, but I didn't quite understand it. Sorry for bothering you with this little detail... Otherwise, while I'm here, I would like to ask you a question that really intrigues me, please: what is actually the < function >/(or the story, maybe???) of the sacred island located off the coast of the capital of the Dominion (Caladan)?-🤔-?

Defiant Explorer

The full sentence you quoted is: “The same cannot be said for neighboring Yardanar (or rather, the Alliance of Seven on its eastern borders), with which Valatea has been at constant war.” The Alliance of Seven was an alliance of the seven cities of Yardanar on its eastern edge against the Republic. For Valatea, they were to the west and, partially, to the north. In other words, the Republic has never been at war with all of Yardanar, only with the Alliance of Seven. So no, not a mistake. More like confusing geography.

Lonely Wolf

Hey! It's me again!! I have just reread your presentation again on the Valatean Republic, and so I'm a bit confused and I was wondering if you had not made an error (inattentiveness?) in the point 11 of the history of the Republic. It's at the level of the parenthesis, when you tell us: < or rather of the Alliance of Seven on its eastern borders. > I guess that you wanted to tell us here: < to its western borders. > Right?&? [^🧐^]

Defiant Explorer

Ah well, +1 vote in favor of these things showing up once in a while. Of course, then tags would have to be added... And links within between similar articles so that lore lovers can navigate... Damn, what have I gotten myself into? xD

jdanarchy

This is the stuff I love!!! Fantastic!!!

Defiant Explorer

Well, we'll see how people react. Nothing like this has ever been here before. So maybe for others, a nearly 5k-word read will seem like weird bullshit with too many capitalized words. You never know until you try it, though.

Lonely Wolf

Well, I really enjoyed that! [^-🥲&😍-^] In fact, I only have two words that come to my mind: 1} Immersive!+! 2} Thanks!+!+!
