"Wait," Harry's eyebrow furrowed, "if we were the second last pairing, that means—" he was cut off, and everyone stopped taking when they heard the last pair.
"Weasley and Malfoy."
Everyone's eyes widened, and even Snape looked shocked as he was rereading the list to check if he had read it wrong.
Snape then threw the list away and looked at the two boys, who still hadn't taken their benches and were glaring daggers at each other.
"Mr. Malfoy and Weasley, go to your cauldrons; I don't have time for your staring contest." Snape drawled.
"But professor, surely you don't think I'm going to work with this idiot," Malfoy sneered at Ron.
Ron opened his mouth to reply, but Snape cut him off.
"I assure you, Mr. Malfoy, whether you want it or not, it doesn't matter; you would have to corporate. Now both of you go to your station before I start taking severe measures," Snape warned, and finally both of them went to their tables while the entire class snickered at them.
Snape glared at the students, and everyone stopped snickering.
"Today you will make a calming drought. The instructions are on the board," he said, and with a flick of his wand, the instructions were on the board, "and the ingredients are in the cupboard." This time, the cupboard opened and was filled with ingredients.

After five minutes, everyone was back conscious. Moody, when he stood up with the help of his cane, surprised everyone when he started laughing.

Moody limped his way to the hufflepuf and got in his face. "You think your enemy will give you an invitation first and then attack you?" He snarled and then shouted, "ANSWER ME, YOU USELESS IDIOT."

Moody nodded. "Now you get it." He then limped his way back to the front and said, "Now I did this surprise attack to test each of you."
He stood at the front, leaning on his cane, and stared at everyone with his spinning eyes, intimidating them. "And I must say, I am left disappointed; expect of two, every other of you failed."
All the students other than Harry and Susan hung their heads in shame.
"And now for why I did it," moody said while he limped from one side to another at the front. "I did that because this year there will be a duelling competition, and I wanted to check how good you are, and it's safe to say that except for two students here, every one of you is shit."

"But as a teacher, it's my responsibility to make you better, so from now on, I am going to teach you how to duel and make you good enough to beat the other school opponents." He said and then opened a list: "Now you may already be aware of it, but I have paired up all of you, and the names are..."
Harry once again stood and waited for his name. He sent a smile to Hermione when she was paired with Hannah, and it looked like he was going to get paired up again in the end.
Finally, when there were only two left, they called their names.
"Potter and Bones," he said, and Harry and Susan stepped forward. "You two are the only ones this year who are most likely to get selected for duels this year, which is why I am pairing you two so that you can help improve each other," he said, firmly staring at them intensely with both of his eyes.
Harry and Susan nodded. "We will, sir."
"Good" moody smiled, which didn't look good on his scarred face. "Now move along and get started."
Harry and Susan then took the free space left in the room and faced each other.
"You ready, Susan?" Harry asked.
"I am," Susan nodded confidently.
And with a coyntdown of three, they began their duel.

The shield breaker broke her shield, and the stunner dropped her down.
She opened her eyes a while later and saw Harry looming over her.
"You did good, Susan." Harry smiled and offered his hand, which she took.
Susan shook her head. "I did not, Harry; you defeated me easily," she said in disappointment.
"Hey!" Harry squeezed her shoulder in comfort. ""Don't be harsh on yourself; you did good, and you can become much better; after all, that's the reason we are paired to improve each other," he grinned.
Susan smiled and nodded. "You are right; come on, let's duel again."
And after that, for the rest of the class, they kept duelling.
Every duel Susan kept losing, but just like Harry said, she also kept getting better with him instructing her and improving the things she was doing wrong.
