Mastodon for Android beta
🕑 Added 2022-03-29 07:54:01 +0000 UTCHi! The Android app that we started developing in January is now ready for beta testing. As supporters of Mastodon's Patreon page, you get early access to the app (link above).
Note: At least some of tabs in the app rely on new features in Mastodon 3.5, which we expect to release before the app is officially released. For now, some tabs may appear empty for you unless you connect to a Mastodon server that's on 3.5.0rc1 or later.
Unlike Apple's TestFlight, there is no built-in feedback submission mechanism on Android. You can give feedback in the comments of this post, upload it to the #app-dev channel on our Discord or send it by e-mail to hello@joinmastodon.org.

Are there any near-term plans to release an updated version of the Android app? The current beta is close but still doesn't work well with limited federation instances.

Hello, CalyxOS user here! If I go to the notifications or mentions tab they are empy and I find this error: "Required field 'type' of type Type was null in Notification. Retry." edit: it is ok with the new beta (19) 👌

This is a very nitpicky one but the M logo in the Mastodon icon looks tiny. See image for comparison: https://imgur.com/a/YhPukSG Also I could not find some instances, like fosstodon.org

I found it a bit confusing that I couldn't find my instance after entering "layer8", but after skimming here and entering the full url layer8.space it works as intended. I think the procedure for non-listed instances could be clearer, even if it's just a small clickable text that says custom instance or something

I like the overall look and style so far! One thing I've noticed so far is I can't work out how to view an image description, and the content warnings show mores could be more obviously buttons and have slightly smaller text, anything else I've noticed I'm assuming is in development, and other people have mentioned them above

Congratulations for this app! It's an honor to be able to test it. It would be nice when replying to a post that the original post appears just above while we write our answer. The search tab doesn't seem to work very well, I can't find a person or a post or a hashtag. One last thing, it is impossible to select a text while pressing on it. I think these are details that will be corrected, but the visual is very promising Congratulations again

Thank you for the feedback! Get started and log in lead to the same page because you need to pick where you will sign up or login in either case. To sign up/login to a server that's not listed, simply enter the domain or URL in the search bar on that page.

I sure wish I could increase the font size, it's smaller than that of every other app on my phone, and my eyes are...not so great these days. :( After grabbing my glasses, functionally, it seems quite good so far! Nothing obvious blew up on me during my initial mucking around with it. :)

Application works nicely ! I've just met two problems : - "Get started" and "Log in" buttons redirects to the same "Pick a community" page. - On text inputs "Search communities" and "Edit profile", the typed text is white on a white background (Fairphone 3 - Android 10 - dark mode enabled).
