Can we complete this extraordinary straight line mission? [DAY 4: Coastal Cravings]

It's been quite a ride, but this series is almost over. I had every intention of this mission being my most boring mission yet. It turned out to be the exact opposite. The ultimate goal of a perfect continuous run may have slipped away from us on day 3 in tragic fashion, but we can still walk every step of this line and damn well complete it. Or can we? Would anything surprise you at this point?

*Some speech might be difficult to hear - use good speakers/headphones if possible and use the man made subtitles*
Patreons, thank you so much for making these missions happen.
So sorry for the delay on this one.
Bonus footage will roll in next week. I promise.

Why not just focus on "pauses" and how far away from the line they are? Where "pauses" are the intervals between segments i.e. when you leave the line and return to the same point later in time. Those happen all the time for camping, collecting firewood, pooping etc. but it's okay because it's only a few meters from the last point on the line. You could apply the same principle to longer pauses (like being at the hotel) and just add the qualifier "longest/farthest pause: 10h/3km" to the mission. That way it'd be better quantitatively comparable to other missions. I don't think that distinguishing between "continuous" and "non-continuous" is particularly useful and practical. There is just too much room for interpretation and too little gradation.

These videos were extraordinary good! Extreme good editing and camera work! My favorites so far. So entertaining. Loved every minute of it. Congrats to this misson! โคโคโค But... You may have completed the line (you definitely have!), but in my opinion not in the right way??? ๐ฒ I am in anticipation of that line discussion video... ๐
Holy shit that's a great idea
When will the line review be released?
Tom you should consider doing a straight line mission across Isle of Man
Anton
Can I suggest you wear a bit taller boots for the next mission? Also, wetsuit.
I love your content dude, it's just so different to everything else out there, you really put your own creative stamp on the travel and outdoors genre. Plus its always great to see a Midlands man get into entertainment. You need to make some clothing merch bro, I would proudly wear a Geowizard shirt on a night out. You and your support crew are legends.
matthew healy
Had to sign up after the Wales adventure...was a great watch...congrats to you and Ben and Verity...real nice touch from Verity with the beers waiting at the end too!
sagacity
Awesome! Congratulations and "get in" to the three of you. And fuck those random twigs, bastards that they are.
Joaquin Iudica
very nice adventure tom! congratulations on your achievement, I hope you continue doing this stuff!
Really fantastic series again. I thought there's no way it could live up to previous ones but I was wrong.
Daniel Bohrer
Yeah, I hope so, I don't remember hearing an explanation eitherโฆ
Daniel Bohrer
Ahh cmon, doesn't matter if it's a few hours late, this one was definitely worth it! Thank you for doing this series!
Great episode. Wondering what happened with the batteries in the GPS on the last episode, did I miss the explanation for that or maybe we'll see that in the line review video?
This adventure had me feeling the suspense the whole way, thanks for sharing your hardships in video format for us to enjoy and sympathize with!
Literally shouted YES at the end and there were plenty of โwincesโ along the way ๐๐ป Love your content Tom
Crassus0
Great achievement. Time to buy a ring for Verity now surely โ sheโs the best support crew you could ask for!
I'm so emotionally attached to this series, it's so adventerous I feel like one of my dreams from childhood is being fulfilled. I will watch every single one of these!
Tom, this was an amazing adventure and a great start to the new year. I hope this is not the end of your adventures but I do hope next time you bring a satphone, extra batteries, map and compass, oh and get some high ankle supports to prevent strains!
Tom do you listen to Alice in Chains and if so whatโs your favourite song
Absolutely amazing mission, and a definitely success! Loved watching it as always. I think it would be entertaining (and hilarious) for you to review/react to Marcus's first attempt because there's a lot of people who thinks this looks easy, and he's here to prove it's harder than you make it look. Congratulations!
Marte Kjelsberg
Congratulations! So happy to see you succeeded! Get in ๐คฉ
Jesse Busman
Awesome!
Travis Willis
Congratulations, Tom, Ben, and Verity! Thank you for bringing us along on this grueling, yet beautiful adventure. I know it didnโt go as planned, but your determination knows no bounds and you should enjoy this moment!
Thanks for this series Tom absolutely quality content really hope you and Greg do another Europe hitchhiking trip when COVID had calmed down ๐๐ป
Hannah Samuels-Lyons
YOU DID IT! Congratulations! Absolutely phenomenal effort. It made me incredibly happy to see your faces at the end, you were both beaming. A lovely sight. Fantastic. Canโt wait to see you back in Scotland for another mission attempt. Remember to give me a bell if you need a contact or stash in the South West!
Podey Williams
Congratulations to all three of you! Didn't expect to be as moved as I was by you finally reaching that finish line but it's been a privilege to have been with you since that very first Wales mission and to have gotten here.
Well done. Congratulations!
Same. Had to wait nearly a full day to watch it and now I can't :(
Congrats. Would love to see Ben do another one with you.
Podey Williams
It'll go public again at 8pm
Get in Tom! I couldn't help missing Greg at the end but I feel it is his win too.
Yannick Pulver
What a beautiful series! Congrats Tom. Your story telling just so entertaining โ I've laughed my ass off so many times
Patrick Delaney
It's gone private
Thanks Tom, really enjoyed the series. Congrats to all three of you!
I hope the video is uploaded soon as this video just disappeared before I was finished.
sagacity
Same here, the same thing happened two episodes ago. Nailbiting!
Tom Gillespy
Was just watching, and its gone private! Hope he hasn't had to take it down because of something I haven't seen yet...I was only 20 mins in! :/
You guys are living legends.
What an entertaining end to another quality mission! Can't wait for the next one ๐
YEEEESSS ๐ช
Alex Callaghan
This is just such a fucking heroic achievement. What a guy. What a team. The only thing missing was the odd Bear Grylls impression!
Incredible. Congratulations! You should hold this run with the highest regard. You'd have seen more criticism for trying to soldier on with an injury and no way of ensuring emergency services could reach you. It was nothing more than a necessary extended deviation between many days of the purest straight line trekking.
Such a cool episode and ending to the series! Can't wait for the bonus footage and the line review video.
Spotted a tiny mistake in the subtitles at 6:49 - you wrote "our bags are just gonna be like big sales" instead of "sails", I thought I'd point it out in case you have time to change it before the Youtube release! But congrats this was an amazing series, and I consider the mission a success!
Viniter
Congratulations, man! What an achievement. Interrupted or not, it's still a first! And well deserved!
amazing, well done
Boezem
You are accepting 30m deveations too easily :( I hope next time you stay a little bit more true to the line. Not go around swampy waters or resevoirs.
With Marcus and those Kiwi kids calling it quits, I was getting worried that this was going to be the third one in a row! Tom Davies โ Breaking trends (and ankles)
Just joined patreon finally because i knew this one was the end and could not help myself, i watched at the start, though muck and loss, but you finally did it mate, so proud, i love your videos.
What a series, what an achievement! Well done all three of you, canโt wait for the next adventure.
Well done! Your misery in this last episode made me laugh so hard! Want you to never end making these missions!
Unreal Tom and Ben, what an adventure
Amazing!! Congrats for making it!
Awesome
Edd Hall
Well done! On to the next one ๐๐ป
Matt
Congrats mate! Another amazing mission video!
GET IN!!! I laughed so hard as guys fell in all of the ditches. What a great final episode :)
Well done Tom, Ben and Verity. In my book Wales is the second country conquered, along with Norway. Now, if you attempt Scotland again next, you'll not only do Scotland, but the entire UK. Don't you dare stop with these until all 196 nations have been straight-lined! ๐
Oliver Handlykken
Congrats on your second straight line! ! Best original content on the internet, for sure
David Winter
An immense effort all round from Ben, Verity & your good self. I loved this series - both gripping & inspiring in equal measure. May the YouTube algorithm gods keep driving more new viewers your way. This deserves to be seen by a huge audience
tear to my eye at the end mate, massive congratulations to you and ben!!!
Success. Congratulations. This has been so enjoyable to watch! Thanks.
I'd consider that a success. Are you going to attempt Scotland again when the pandemic is over? Last time COVID restrictions were what caused the failure of the mission.
ill take it for a successful trip, congrats!
Boonda P
Absolute legend
Michael Znidarsic
If you guys chose to hang them up now and never attempt another straight line, you'd walk away having pioneered an entirely new feat, and no one could say you didn't leave it all on the moors of Britain and go out on a high note. But we are all so stoked to see you and Greg kick Scotland's ass or do the first uninterrupted Wales route. Congrats Tom, Ben, and Verity!
Is that a trail camera at 14:38?
Vin Hill
I think I speak for everyone when I say this, mate; GET IN!
Congrats in finishing! absolutely loving the content. First time patreon subscriber just so I could see the content a day early! gotta say Im surprised you don't at least have a compass with you. Could have saved you a lot of hassle this go around for something so compact and cheap.
Cleverly Blonde
Awesome and congratulations! I hope you'll consider map+compass as emergency (I realise the GPS tracks the line, but in cases where it fails I think the good old stuff would have saved you the tracking about to find Verity?) and perhaps a walking stick, both for the ankle but also to prod marshes and such, or even as improvised handle to crossings...
Congrats both. Amazing effort. Scotland again???
Nick
Another absolute triumph of a series, Tom. Really some of the best there is on YouTube. Loved it.
Congrats man, you earned it
This was insane team, you nailed it
Mrein
Get in Tom and Ben! Congratulations!
Excellent work mate to you and the gang! Looking forward to more straight line missions to come if all things pan out!!!
Congrats Tom! Thanks for the epic adventure!!!
Owen
"We're getting out of it. We're getting out of it. We're getting out of it." lol Tom, Ben, Verity, thank you SO much for this. What a start to 2022 :)
Kevin Skocypec
Incredible mate. Thank you for this - is there anyway we can convince you to do another (or something similar)? :)
We have witnessed the first (and successful) attempt to teleport through the railway track in a completely straight line. Congrats for this epic success, guys! Definitely a โget inโ moment.
Shane Ewing
The music and editing makes the mood shift drastically and I love it. Beginning of montage: ๐บ๐บ๐๐๐บ๐บ Ten seconds later: ๐ข๐ค death would be preferable to this โ ๏ธ๐ Then back to: ๐บ๐บ๐๐๐บ๐บ
Link Elmore
Wales done and dusted. Success at last.
Congrats!
William
Congrats man! This has been the best one yet!
easily a success mate, fantastic series and well done to you, ben and verity
Get in, the closing scene got me hyped! Can't wait to see what you do next.
Epic as always!
Well done Tom and congratulations to another completed mission! I hope this is not the last one but understand if you are tired of farmers by now. I hope you will venture out on more missions in the future. Maybe a country with fewer farms or just a series where you travel around like in "how to not travel Europe" a personal favourite.
What am inspiring journey! Congrats to you both! Did you ever consider revisiting the aggy farmer to explain yourself more?
James Hefel
Hi Tom, have you ever considered bringing a collapsible walking stick along with you, potentially to help keep strain off your ankles in ravines and such or just add some extra support in necessary times? Any reason why not? Just wondering.
ML Travels
That teleportation method was amazing!??! Never seen anything like it ;)
Jack Marris
Get in!!!! Well done man!!
AfterInfinity Music
The very end felt like at the end of an action movie where they put the text up on screen "Tom Davies will return." and everyone cheers.
great great episode, hats off to the welsh scenery, and bless verity for the pints at the end, i really felt that.
wow congrats
I can't lie that fall near the very end was so funny
Mark Furniss
Great series. Well done to you Ben and verity. I believe it was a success to.
Erik Nilsson
very nice
Tom Hughes
Fantastic effort! Such an achievement. Well done to you all
Testicles dipped and Railway line magically teleported across. Signs of a good trip.
Tyler Wrage
Loved it, Tom. Nearly brought a tear to my eye at the end, you've done a great job in making your viewers feel invested in the journey. Can't wait to see what is in store!
loved this man, but please make sure you get a satphone and new gps system before the next one
Josette Reynolds
Awesome stuff. I hope there are more and you haven't really retired. Also you should take a monocular on future missions for spying ahead
I think more a reference to the colour palette in that moment
Brilliant Tom, such a great video as ever. Love your videos so much, well worth waiting up to see. Best of luck with the next adventure. God bless Verity for bringing you beers, what a real one!
GET IN!!!!
What an episode, had me in stitches๐ what a successful mission, you completed all of the line, well done ladsโค๏ธ
Ethan Brier
You covered every metre, only stopping for a real emergency. Success in my book any day
Brilliant! Tom your an absolute legend!
Definitely a success, just top tier entertainment!
Caly
unreal!!!
Train track was the best bit. I also love how much effort you put into the fake line for the map view! Congratulations :))
CONGRATULATIONS TOM
Haha I love that teleport over the railway track
Jimmyisawkward
Where in Washington does it look like that? Obviously not western Washington or Spokane area, somewhere in the south or something? Iโve never seen something like that here.
Michael Caplan
mate, you're a pretty legit documentary filmmaker at this point. congrats!
