I doubt in the canal it's self for safety reasons, and looking at the toll list they'd probably count and charge you for every bean and breadcrumb in your bag https://pancanal.com/eng/op/tariff/index.html I'd imagine the lake is fair game?

With little bit of playing with the exact line you could get a good proportion of it over water through the Gatun lake and the canal itself. That does still give a 15km jungle section but it doesn't look totally insane. Can you kayak in the Panama canal?

Hmmmm, there is a reasonably highway from Panamá to Colón which could help. However, it's still 52 km as the crow flies…

I wonder what the shortest straight line across a continent is. probably that panama area, the one with the canal the goes from Atlantic to Pacific?
You said a while back that somalia and Afghanistan were high up on your ‘next to visit’ list, of you still plan on getting there?
