Please try this again when Covid restrictions are gone. This time, use it in some form as a fundraiser, perhaps for Addison's Disease research; that way if you do get caught, folks are far less likely to have any problem and even if they do object, they won't be as strict or mean about their reactions.

Nova Scotia in Canada would be a good idea! There are parts where it's only about 80km across from side to side. There are also just plenty of other options in Canada, lots of room

My sister and I (who have been following this) decided to watch this one with our whole family, and our parents especially loved it. My dad said "they have such fun language!!" and everyone's general consensus was that you did the right thing (though my dad's doctor-opinion was that the farmer shouldn't have been worried about COVID since the odds of you all passing it to him was slim to none. We reminded him not everyone is a scientist.) My mom wants to know if you're sponsored (with the camo suit. She things you definitely are!) Thanks again for sharing all this with us, you both are the best!

it all makes the achievement feel more illusive and prestigous. what are the other destinations? if you try in Qatar or Bahrain you really need to worry about the local police because they are brutal. and the heat is even worse than them. i think Latvia is a good option, super flat and if you go north-south from/to bay of Riga it's not that long, maybe 70km. also a very rural place! just need to check local laws.

I guess you think about the narrow stretch between Schleswig and Husum. While not a big distance, I think there might be quite some obstacles. I wouldn't recommend crossing the A7 motorway during the day, due to heavy traffic (it is the main traffic axis to Denmark/Scandinavia after all) and a good amount of cars driving at insane speeds. Even at night, it will be tricky to stay clear of oncoming speed junkeys. If it ever happens, I'd happily help in making that mission reality, though.

Scotland too has a 'right to roam', however covid superseded that in this case, more to do with crossing the border illegally too, though even a native scot would have likely got in trouble if they had attempted the same thing

I actually think, he called the cops before he went up there - he couldn't know what these guys are up to and makes sense in this way. Because of Covid, they had to act, even if the farmer was cool about it. If the Farmer had problems with it, they wouldn't be allowed to stay on his ground for the night. I don't think, he is to "blame" - if one could say blame anyway. ;)

I switched to Solo Stove, burns like a gas stove as well when the secundary burn comes in place - but is fired with wood. But Gas might come to favor, if you have to cool it down fast ;)

Germany might be a great choice as well - on of the biggest countries, but in Schleswig Holstein kind of tight with 33km from baltic- to north sea. Camping is not allowed, though biwi is kind of accepted. If not in a nature protection area and most people would be very pissed about making a fire... Also I wouldn't go too military =D

That farmer was an arsehole. He wasnt afraid of covid at all, he just used it as an excuse to fuck yous off cause he is a crank. He also trapped yous there and called the cops, which is awful form. Speaking with the cops gave me flashbacks to my youth, was very uncomfortable. Look forward to future content !

Honestly I would have thought that by a) doing the trip in the first place then b) posting it all online, that you were aware and prepared to accept potential legal consequences. For you it's your job and passion, breaking the law comes with the territory unfortunately. Maybe next time if you want to take the risks it's got to be solo :/

Gas stove is a must next time IMO, more concealed spots to camp... and maybe binoculars are needed! Re-ignite that paranoia you had from the original wales video and I think you would have made it. Sorry it didn't work out, but thank you for the great content, none the less. The videos wouldn't be the same if it was a guaranteed success each time

Not going to lie, I feel you absolutely could have pulled off just finishing the trip. It would've added an extra layer of tenseness to it, but I think you were spot on about them warning you that you'd get caught and how they just say that when it might not be the case. Also that farmer was a total dick, even if he changed his mind it's a dishonorable thing to do in my opinion. Regardless, another amazing adventure and I can't wait for the next one. Wales 3 would absolutely be awesome to see. Never get tired of it.

Scotland has very similar laws, it was more to do with covid restrictions than camping laws

Thats the advantage of Sweden and Norway. You may camp and walk free, as long as you are not in someones yard. But in the forest or in a field, its legal.

Thinking about the feasibility of a straight line mission across a US state, the law would be a major issue. While the cops tend to be a bit more laid-back in rural areas, depending on their moods and state law you could get into far worse trouble if you were caught on someone's land like that. Great series, regardless of how it ended, looking forward to Welsh Greg one day getting his successful attempt.

You definitely made the right decision. If you were even spotted, and called in, the police have your info, and would know exactly who the subjects were. We'd rather have you back safe and sound, to tackle another straight line, then end up wrapped up in a bunch of legal trouble.

As long as lockdown is over then it’s probably okay to do. You did see quite a few people but mostly they were far off. When Scotland and the rest of the UK are completely out of lockdown it’s very doable. Seeing your pace in the bits you did do I think it was either going to be a completed line or this as the ending.

If it is any consolation, it seems that you accomplished the toughest part of this mission only to get snagged with bad luck, but it so easily could have happened early in the trip. Aww, great episode. Sorry it ended like it did. The main thing that bothered me is the irrational fear of covid transmission. I'm all for safety and minimizing transmission. But there's sooo little risk with the great outdoors. Also the farmer literally came over to you guys to say he was scared about covid and then got two other guys to come over to you guys. He could have just let it go. If he was really worried about transmission he shouldn't have come close to you. I know you were really polite and were really good about not blaming him and stuff, but it irks me. It's irrational fear, and it makes people make bad decisions. You're not tourists just coming in and being cavalier and whatnot. You had a mission. You were reasonable and respectful. I really hope the farmer sees these videos somehow and feels a nice big pang of regret for calling the cops on you when you weren't harming anyone.

Gutted you boys got so far into this one without any trouble to hit that snag near the end. But you definitely made the right call packing up and heading home. It's easy to sit here and say you could have finished the mission but it wasn't worth the potential legal trouble if you were stopped again. Wasn't meant to be this time but another top effort. Oh man, I'm a bit sad this ended now. Especially after seeing the plan what would come after stash two. BUT: I think you did the right thing. If the police men were correct and you'd stumble over people left and right further along the line, the ONLY right thing to do was abort the mission. I'm assuming he must of spoke to a family member who was disapproving of his decision not to call the cops. He did seem torn between being sound and being pissed off, so I reckon he'd be easily swayed on it by someone else..? Just a thought though obviously and still gutted about the result, even if it made for some great content !

I thought the same thing with the "can I help yoos" farmer from the day before, who implied they were endangering an at-risk person on the farm by "touching fences". That is obviously ridiculous. I myself strictly quarantined during the pandemic, but not to the point of not touching things outside. The disease is airborne, it isn't tetanus. My hypothesis is that the real reason the farmers were annoyed was that there were "Southerners" traveling on their land when they they themselves were not permitted to travel. While the Scottish farmers are very different from American farmers in they believe in the seriousness of the pandemic, I think their interpretation of the pandemic is more in terms of a inequality of freedom between them and urbanites. In America, that difference is in farmers hating being told what to do to prevent the pandemic's spread. In Scotland, it seems to be others not listening to what they should do.

Live & Learn - Hopefully we can get through this pandemic and you can return to doing this without that obstacle. I enjoyed the series Tom and I look forward to your Geoguessr videos in the future :-)

I'm a bit sad but only because I love these missions so much and would have loved to see more. However, you made the right decision. you don't want to disobey the police publically on camera on youtube haha. What I don't really get though is the covid scare. I too am really careful and don't go anywhere, but you guys didn't plan on making any contact and just crossed the land. Even if you had it, why would that be an issue when you dont leave anything behind and stay in areas that are distanced enough from the main farm. how would a mask and 6 feet distance be "safe" (e.g. when shopping) but this very significantly higher distance be unsafe? if anything he seeked out the danger by approaching you?

Amazing straight line attempt!! And these kind of stories will even stick longer with you then if you do not have such obstacles. Now you can tell your grandchildren about the time you were stopped by police on a mission in the middle of the night !

Incredible video and don't kick yourselves too hard for failing at the mission. According to Gary "Lazarus Lake" Cantrell, the Director of the Barkley Marathons, it's much more rewarding when you do finally complete the challenge if you fail along the way. Still a great story, and the way you made it so far is success on its own! You'll adapt from this and learn lessons from this you can carry forward on future challenges. keep it up!!

Unfortunate result lads, I look forward to the re-attempt. Something to consider perhaps is to not have campfires on unsure land as in the darkness it is a big giveaway. Items like hand warmers could be a substitute for this to stay warm in the winter months (of course not as fun or sustainable), but if those are included within your stash bags - it could be the difference between failure and success. I really enjoyed this one, though and your straight line performance has certainley improved with all of these missions. Good luck for the future gents x

Hi Tom! That’s disappointing. I’m surprised at the farmer doing that. I can’t get my head around why he’d say he doesn’t want to get in the way and he’ll let you stay then leave in the morning so long as you don’t go down to the farmyard if what he really meant was, I’m calling the police. What a strange thing to do. I’m 50/50 on how I feel about that because I would’ve supported him more in his decision if he’d said when he spoke to you that he was calling or had called them already instead of pretending he was cool if he wasn’t, but then again, it’s his land and he can do what he wants - and it was in a lockdown. I wonder if it would’ve made a difference to the police if you’d gone prepared with some sort of printed pass such as the ones the tv and film industry would use that would confirm you are travelling for work. That might’ve helped, I don’t know. Ahhhh, the frustration. That being said, it didn’t make the episodes any less enjoyable. A great watch as always. Please try again, and if you’re thinking of moving the line please come and see us in Galloway, my previous offer still stands. You could do right along the border, Hadrian’s Wall sort of area or slightly higher. They’re called ‘missions’ or ‘straight line attempts’ for a reason. It’s a very difficult thing to try and there’s always a chance it will fail. These things can’t be helped, you just need to keep trying, which we know you will. Without spoiling too much: It may be good to avoid campfires in the future, especially so close to people and houses. It may not have made a difference, but it does attract attention and people generally don't want campfires on their land. Better luck next time! All of this is part of the adventure.

Disappointing but I think you made the correct decision. The police gave you a break so it would have been churlish to break your promise. I'd like to see you come back and try the same line again after lockdown. The excitement and adventure levels in that episode were off the scale though, great stuff.

Hi Tom, I just wanted to thank you personally for all the content you have gifted me over the past 2 years. I've been in a really tough place in my life that has left me depressed and suicidal. Your content has helped me get through some of my darkest days and reminds me of why I want to keep going: traveling and exploring the world. Now I'm taking a two week road trip through California with my sister in August. Going through Yosemite National Park, traveling west to San Fransico, and then riding the California coast down to Los Angeles. To say I'm excited would be an understatement.
