Attempting to cross the biggest roundabout in the UK (a truly pointless mission)
🕑 Added 2021-08-17 13:56:24 +0000 UTCIn late April 2021, after visiting our dad in Swansea, a hungover Ben and I decided to stop off at the UK's largest roundabout near Cardiff, with a view to walk across it in a completely straight line. The problem was, apart from the heat and the hay fever, the line I'd plotted on the GPS, which did span the widest point of the roundabout, was terrible. It wasn't long before Ben and I were walking the wrong way down the side of the M4 - the busiest road in Wales, and a motorway with much heavier surveillance than the ones Greg and I crossed in Scotland. Would we make it 450 metres to the other side in emphatically underwhelming style and rely on violent snorts of Beconase 3-in-1 hay fever spray to provide a post mission adrenalin kick? I'm guessing that was Coryton roundabout? Just around the corner from where I live. There is actually a motorway maintenance area and layby for police on that roundabout. You were lucky not to get pulled up by the fuzz

Oh wow very interesting! Yeah it's quite a challenge getting into the wenallt one now, very large fences :(

Nah, there was another bigger one, but its gone :( I've heard the one up the Wenallt is well secured now. I remember when it was wide open like a decade or more ago. Shame it was all burnt out.
The bunker up by the wenallt is still there if that's the one you mean!
There is an nice walk along the old canal in the woods by there, not sure id want to cross the A470 there though, you were super lucky with how quiet it was! There used to be a big bunker around there too but I think they pulled it down.
