Loved this one, from Porthpean onwards you’re on the route of a coast path run that some guys called Mud Crew put on in August, I’ve been a long this coast path and through these villages numerous times, but to see a bit of the real everyday life of these places puts them in a whole new light. I’ll keep an eye out for Helen next time I’m on the way through Mevagissey!

A piece of advice for your next adventure - bring the Collins Gem Mushrooms pocket book with you. It's tiny so shouldn't add much weight, and gives you enough information to do some basic mushroom foraging as a beginner. Also check out Wild Food UK on YouTube :)

That chicken of the woods find was incredible. Can confirm with 100% certainty that that was definitely the real deal (I've been a big mushroom forager for a few years). There are no poisonous lookalikes in the UK, so as long as it's not been pissed on or next to a busy motorway, you're good! The outer rim of each lobe will always be more fresh, but the specimen you found looked fresh all over to me. Great vid Tom!

A life is a life? You're killing microscopic living things every day. You can't avoid it. If all life is equal, the best thing a person could do is kill oneself immediately - now I would never suggest that because I value more complex organisms higher than single-cell organisms, or organism without a central nervous system, or organisms that only have very simple reptile brains. Listen, I'm not trying to harrass you. But just try to engage honestly with this thought for a second. You were the one who suggested I should educate myself, and I agree with that sentiment (I'm a teacher by profession). But again, if killing a mollusk is EQUAL to killing a human child, how is killing a dustmite or a mosqueto by just moving around in the world not also a heinous act? I'm not just trying to win this argument, I honestly want to know what you think about this.

I admire that you are standing up for your beliefs. But birds and rats eat mollusks alive. If humans didn't exist, there would still be a massive amount of animal death, pain and suffering due to predators eating their prey. That happens daily worldwide. Aside from the cooking part which is necessary for food safety, Tom didn't really do anything that isn't done by animals to each other. As I said, nothing wrong though with voicing your concerns, but bringing Tom's child into the argument is out of order in my opinion.

Perhaps I shouldn't get into this but... Mollusks do not have brains, and the organisms would not "experience" anything in any way similar to human-like creatures. The scientific research on whether there is anything similar to "pain" is unclear, the most affirmative statement I could find was, paraphrasing, that "we don't know but we ought not to harm them unneccessarily" (SOURCE: https://academic.oup.com/ilarjournal/article-pdf/52/2/185/6763941/ilar-52-185.pdf) while other scientists claim more conclusively that they do not feel pain (SOURCE: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6088194/) . So while I haven't "done my research" since I'm not a scientist, I have looked into it, and I would personally NOT claim that putting them in a fire where they die in a matter of seconds is anything REMOTELY as cruel as keeping pigs in ridiculously small enclosures for their entire lives just to sell people cheaper pork chops. BUT, if you saw Tom eat pork chops, you probably would complain, would you? Even if the animal cruelty behind that act is MASSIVELY worse. Pigs are as smart as dogs and cats, while mollusks are similar to worms. Again, I appreciate your stance, but don't lash out just because the imagery is disturbing to you. Think about what is actually taking place, and compare it to what else is happening in our society. If you don't want to watch it because it upsets you, that very understandable. But calling Tom "cruel" and comparing it to cooking his baby alive is just ridiculous - unless you also threaten to unsubscribe every time anyone eats meat of any kind. Being vegan is great - being inconsistent and rude is not.

Excellent series. I've had a couple of holidays in the Mevagissey area, so it was good to see it again. As an idea for a future adventure how about combining previous ones. So a bit of real life Geoguesser, then once you've found out where you are on a physical map (so no Googling or other digital maps) make your way to a predetermined goal through any means in set amount of time, but with only a tenner in your pocket!

I really love this series, Tom. I'm gonna try to be netural and give some feedback: I would have loved some more details about the argument and the other adventures with your "kooky friend" - but I do understand the decision there to protect people's privacy. This "tenner in my pocket" concept is just perfect IMO, it's less strict than a straight line mission but it gives the adventure a central thread, while both inciting you to connect with people, and giving you freedom to do what you feel like and seek out adventure opportunistically. A good mix between nature shots and path walking on the one side, and meeting people and pub crawling on the other side, makes for great varied content.

I appreciate your stance on not killing, but calling anyone cruel for accidentally spoiling food is a bit much. Perhaps you're vegan, but many very nice people burn their chicken or let a piece of fish go bad in the fridge - that's far from being cruel, but it's also wasting something that was living. Mollusks don't have don't have brains so even if you could claim that they can feel pain, it's far from what a pig or a chicken feels, and you wouldn't call someone cruel for wasting a pork chop. This is less indirect, but I laud anyone who actually gathers their food and sees the entire process, which might seem more cruel than "getting your meat from the shop" but is in fact often more responsible and certainly more insightful.

I can reassure you that the blue tent you saw below the footbridge near Spit Beach did get taken! I live locally and saw it en route to the beach, and then saw a guy walking away with it back to the car park! For a brief moment watching this, I thought it might've been you I saw taking it! Great video! I love the tenner in my pocket videos, and would be cool to see Wales or Scotland featured. One suggestion is that you could make a bucket list of tasks you want to do or see on the trip, eg cook seafood, and get a pint by a local.
