This was an idea I had tossed around VERY early on with the story, but eventually scrapped it since I didn't want Sal to be too subservient or like a pet, if that makes sense? This doesn't mean Sal doesn't help Battam with potion stuff (I'm more than sure he does prep for Battam here and there) and having Sal around does make Battam happier which makes potion making easier for him-- BUT, Battam does get a familiar proper later in the game. Won't spoil what it is if you don't already know :)c

Okay but Sal being Battam's familiar along with his lover is such a sweet idea~! As a cook, he could probably help really well with potions, and I can see how his company might make Battam's magic much more... uh. Potent. Pun intended.
