Articulated Hutt
🕑 Added 2022-02-05 12:31:20 +0000 UTCThese days everyone is printing articulated stuff so I had to try to do something too :)
The plan was to make an articulated hair for one character but then I got The Star Wars Archives book and I've noticed Jabba the Hutt in it so I said to myself: Hey, this should be a fun little thing to do.... I was wrong.... ish.....
My first inspiration was that famous slug model so I've tried to make a same mechanism for my character but it didn't went that smooth as I've expected.
At the end of the process I've made 3 different articulations so I'll probably do more characters with it because I have to admit, these kinds of models are super fun to play with.
This was the first test, 50% at 0.3. The goal of this one was to see will it be printable at that size and with that layer height.
2nd test and 60% and 0.2. I was super happy with it but my nightmare wasn't over yet. I had to figure out the amount of details I can add without adding unwanted friction to the model.
After a chat I had with some people in my discord I went with the super simple version and this is the final result.
I've seen a lot of Jabba references and there are some crazy big differences between movies, cartoons, toys etc so I've made something in between. Yes, you will notice that I haven't added his tattoo and the reason behind that is that I wanted to make this one as a member of the Hutt family but he doesn't have to be Jabba, maybe Artiqulo the Hutt or Bendy... Who knows, maybe I'll make a female version one day and call it Hubba Hubba the Hut... It's a bad joke but I do like the name :D :D :D
On Prusa this one fits diagonally at 100% and on most sizes, it doesn't need any support :)
What would be a cool articulated model?

Everytime I print this the joints break so that they just slide off when holding. I'm on a Ender 3, with amazon PLA, Any fixes?
I tried 30% on my Ender 3 and it didn’t work. Will bump up on the next try.
