There is a map posted over on the public sites.

Amerdism

You really need to get a map denoting the territories of the various nations.

Julius

no to me

Tertius711

Not really to the Velaryons at this point though.

Julius

that is true, it's just super alluring

Tertius711

They do already have Gogossos though so technically speaking it would be high risk for questionable reward. Yeah lol.

Julius

ah yes that would be dangerous, but the bounty to find would still be quite alluring, but if it's just sponsoring adventurers then they shouldn't be in that much danger yeah that is probably a problem, I was just thinking if there were some way the give the Velaryon dragons an edge simply through innovation rather than pure skill, but they will have the greater skill in this case

Tertius711

Glad you liked it! We've come far from when you were worried in the midst of Gogossos ehh? Yeah, Daeron and Laena should be aight I think. Stay tuned to see how it goes. Glad you think the proposed tactics and strategies are sound. I certainly have plans for what ultimately happens at Driftmark. Stay tuned for them! You mean decrease right, not increase? Nah, nowhere near enough steel to make armor large enough for dragons. Even if they can't do either of those, the candles letting them scry and communicate so far and so instantly is the true advantage. The Iron Islands are actively inside Westeros while the Dothraki aren't and are in fact quite far away from Volantis with Essaria in the way ITTL. Jace is the main character boi! But if you're worried about this, don't ya worry. I have plans to further develop all the characters and their thoughts on the impending Dance. Jace isn't the only one who has to suffer, just the first that we see. Luke is Fireman lol. The Holy Trinity lol? Sounds weird ngl.

Tertius711

Maybe but perhaps even attempting it is dangerous given what Aerea brought back with her. Perhaps but it would be pretty unwieldy to strap on.

Julius

yeah I don't think I wrote that very well, meant it more like Corlys could look into sponsoring and working with ambitious adventurers who might want to risk it. maybe even connecting them with magicians or researchers at their university to figure out what is going on. I completely agree with you that he shouldn't try to make the venture himself If I were constantly tackling people I would consider putting small spikes on my shoulder

Another excellent update :) Good to know that Daeron and Laena have some time to find joy in their marriage - if people who were strangers to each other could eventually do this (like Eddard and Catelyn), they can too. More important is that they finally cleared the air and got rid off any positive feelings for Aegon left. Now it's him or them. Hopefully they won't hesitate in critical moment. So Road to the War begins officially. Proposed tactics and strategies are solid. About Leaving Driftmark they should either prepare ambush including something explosive or buch of hidden scorpions operated by guys with deathwish, or at least leaving schorched earth and leaving nothing to Targs.. Combination of Valyrian Steel suits, parachutes and gliders will dramatically decrease risk of death in case of worst. At worst case they could be also used in dramatic, heroic coup de'grace (sth like in "Reign of Fire" movie, though guys there jumped from the helicopter and were armed in net launchers). BTW, while it's impractical, do Velaryons possess enough Valyrian Steel to create sth like Dragon Armor? Using glass candles to take control of Targs seems far-fetched a bit. But idea of tormenting them in dreams have merit :) If they are trying to use Iron Islands to sow a discord in Westeros, couldn't they do sth similar with Dothrakis to block a Volantis? If they're more intelligent than OTL, some of them could take a deal. Pity that helping Dorne is out of question - too much bad blood. But nothing should stop them from discretly evacuate (steal) some Dornish capital or even willing people. The less will be left for Targs, the better for them :) In the end: Why is that always Jace who must suffer; if not inferiority comples, then guilt. When the war starts will he be hesistaning if Daemon tries to kill him too? Because I'm sure that his father-in-law won't have such problem. Yes, he should tell Baela the truth, and sooner than later, but without any groveling or pleading. Time for hesistating has ended, time to take care for problems and choose sides has come ;) P.S. Top Dragon? Well, I guess Jace could be Maverick and Luke a Fireman ( :) ), but the rest? That'd depend whether sequel appeared before MC was transported ;) P.P.S. Triarchy is overrated, and Triunal.....strange. Why not Trinity?

Tertius711

Glad you like it.

Robin

I like that

Tertius711

Wow that sounds crazy. And yeah Jace is nowhere near as shitty as this guy.

ha vu

The title is Goodbye, My Princess, and the original novel was called Eastern Palace - the name for the palace of the Crown Prince. Basically, in the novel, Li Dog needs a military victory to raise his reputation and get the position of the Crown Prince. He disguised himself as a tea merchant, seduced the heroine into marrying him, set an ambush for her grandfather's army during the wedding killed her grandfather, and mother, and drove her father insane. She was so desperate that she jumped off a magic river that erased people's memory. Li Dog actually did love her so he asked for her hand as a condition for making peace (after killing her mother, grandfather, etc). She married him but forgot about him. He then went on to be an abusive husband (neglecting and physical violence at times) to her because he needed to court other concubines for their family support. She regained her memory, couldn't live with him anymore, ran away but was stopped by him then committed suicide due to desperation with her situation. He completely lost his mind, deluded himself into thinking that she went back to her home, had a bunch of kids with other women, and was miserable the whole time on the throne, I guess??? His POV chapter was pretty depressing and bonkers so he did have the self-loathing part covered but compared that to what his victims - Xiaofeng + her family and all the peasants caught in the crossfire went through ... To be fair to Li Dog, he wanted the position because he wanted to take revenge on the Empress for killing his mother. However, he deliberately staged an attack on the borders as an attack from her grandfather's clan, flaming the conflict between the nation for an opportunity to gain military victory, using her family's death as a stepping stone for his rise to power, doesn't even have the decency to treat her well when he forces her into a marriage with him, abused and neglected her just to appease other women, killed her maids when she tried to escape due to unhappiness, committed marital rape in a fist of jealousy with "himself" (*she remembered having a lover and his name but not who it was or what his relationship with her family downfall so she constantly wanted to find her lover during her miserable time and he took that as her wanting to leave him for another man. It was pretty convoluted*), was not exactly the correct way to go about getting your revenge. And he even admitted to loving the position, not just the revenge. Jace is nowhere near the level of unhinged and deranged as Li Dog but the theme of family feuds and a couple being caught in the middle is strong. And you know - having a kid to use as a bind for your love is one of the thoughts that Li Dog has because he knew that was the only possible way Xiaofeng was going to stay with him after what he did. Lucky for Xiaofeng, he didn't succeed or she would have to live and have a child with the person who killed her family. In this story, the heroine's family was going to kill the main guy's family, the guys didn't cheat or abuse the heroine, he also respected her position as his wife (unlike how Li Dog treated Xiaofeng) so ... it is not the same. And it is not like Daemon is going to die or Gael or anything. Man, I was reading some pretty weird romance novels during high school.

Tertius711

So I ultimately decided to just keep it simple and use the canon Triarchy. It is a cool name.

Tertius711

They're funny but immersion breaking.

Coconut mango

Wack in a good way? Lol

Tertius711

Those sound so wack lol Paul.

Tertius711

Yeah there is some similarity to Tribune, cause they both mean three. The issue is that Triarchy causes massive confusion with the Triarchs of Volantis so I never understood why Martin chose that name.

Tertius711

They can't take a kingdom title or it will piss off the Targaryens. I get why Triunal Realm is strange though, some others have already mentioned that. How about just 'Triune'? Nevermind, I decided to just K.I.S.S and go with Triarchy like canon.

Tertius711

I actually tried searching up this series. Couldn't find it. I don't think Jace would become an abusive and delusional jackass, he's too self-aware and self-loathing F.

Robin

I don't mind them keeping the Ironborn revolt from them, basic opsec as I said. And I don't think framing them as deterrence is really a lie. I didn't get the impression that House Velaryon is planning on making the first strike, just convinced that House Targaryen will attack. If they can get Baela and Rhaena to draw the same conclusion, that's half the battle.

Coconut mango

How about Free Cities United, Undisputed Lands or some arbitrary name like France or something 😜

Tertius711

Euron got to Valyria with the help of an eldritch abomination and after narrowly coming out of Gogossos with a positive outcome somehow, it may not be such a great idea. Idk seems unwieldy. Like you as a human imagine strapping knives to your elbows lol.

Robin

I don't really like Triune, it sounds like Tribune which is a roman military rank and so doesn't make me think of a military body. I also think Triarchy could work

Tertius711

Glad you're getting excited! Dalton is 3 years old right now and he will be 7 in 120 AC when shit goes down, so who knows if he makes it to the Dance.

Tertius711

Robin, yeah they totally could try easing Baela and Rhaena into it but they have to be extremely careful to do so in a way that does not reveal that they believe war is inevitable and they are preparing for it. If the slightest clue of that makes it back to the Targaryens, they are truly fucked. Talking about Aegon's temper tantrum is fine because that's half common knowledge and they'd get that from their parents anyway. Even framing their plans as deterrence and security are still lies by omission and misdirection. The Ironborn revolt is perhaps the first time House Velaryon has dared to actively move against the Targaryens. It's treason frankly so Baela and Rhaena can never know and if they find out they better damn well be pulled into the house fully by that point.

Tertius711

WardforAll, actually no. Normally the idea of political marriages is to bind two two families together in an alliance so a noblewoman wouldn't have to choose which family to back. Just because it is expected doesn't mean it is easy after all. Ofc historically and in Westeros this didn't always happen and 'allied' houses often went to war. However your houses going to war and sending vassals and levies to fight on a battlefield is much less impersonal than taking your own dragon and directly fighting and trying to kill family members. That's the big issue. It is indeed quite similar to Viserra and Jaehaerys but unlike Viserra, Baela and Rhaena never fell out with their parents which makes it worse. The Velaryons are indeed pulling a pretty scummy move here and yet it's one they feel they have no choice but to make given how high the stakes have become.

Tertius711

Felipe Astur, wdym Jace was rationalizing? Do you mean exaggerating?

Tertius711

I appreciate the suggestions but idk I don't like any of these. They all feel idk immersion breaking. Why not just 'Triune' from 'Triple Union' and is a real life term sometimes used to refer to the Holy Trinity so it has religious connotations as well.

Edmeister

Triunal Realm sounds strange... How about... The United Kingdom? ( ͝° ͜ʖ͡°) LOL I kid. Names are hard. I have no better name for the new realm Jace is trying to make. I just know that Triunal Realm sounds so strange to say.

ha vu

This is about to become Eastern Palace with Dragons. Hope Jace won't become a jackass like Li Dog. That series traumatized me for life. I never thought a guy could be that abusive and delusional.

Robin

The plans to spark the Ironborn revolt, I don't mind keeping from Baela and Rhaena, that's just basic opsec. But I do think giving them a heads up of the increased tensions and a sort of nonspecific worry might be a good idea.

Robin

Or Triadic which just means "of three" I think

WardforAll

I figure like Vissera and Jaehaerys situation. When Baela and Rhaena see that their Parents and families pride is more important to them than their own children it will make them side with House Velaryon. I mean from the reading that’s what their already doing but while the Stepstones was a result of Jaehaerys Ego, the Velaryons turning a family against each other with actual intent is what’s making this thing so scummmy.

Robin

Maybe they could try and ease Baela and Rhaena into it? Like be upfront about Aegon's temper tantrum. Share some of the plans since a lot of their plans could be framed as becoming big enough that the Targaryens will leave them alone instead of preparing for war. There's still the breach of trust... Maybe even just asking Baela and Rhaena? Like there's shenanigans going on, do you want to know?

Robin

Tridomus? For domain?

Julius

If I were Corlys I would begin looking into getting to Valyria, through magic or inventions, considering that Euron managed to do it, it should be doable somehow especially with dragons still living and magic thus being more powerful/abundant Would blades on the wing-bones(the front) of their dragons be a weapon? so when hitting another dragon with the wings it would cut, same with blades or spikes on their tails.

Timofei Alechkevitch

Just call it the "Triumvirate" or something, I think it sounds better. I know it's stealing the Romans' flow, word for word, bar for bar, so you could maybe change it up a bit, but something along those lines would probably be better.

WardforAll

Isn’t that’s what’s expected in Westeros, that a woman back the family she married into rather than the one she was born into? I guess the stakes are just higher because of Dragons. It’s basically a medieval Cold War with Dragons as the Nukes. Maybe a few disasters in Dorne will teach the Targaryen’s some freaking humility…oh who am I kidding they’re all screwed.

Felipe Astur

In my opinion, Jace was a bit of a “Drama king”….. He was rationalizing too much the impact on his relationship with Baela.

Omar

Now this is just getting me excited for more though I am curious if Dalton Greyjoy will make an appearance since the Valaryons are going to drag the iron Islands into the dance

Tertius711

It's inevitable they'll find out eventually but they really can't take the risk at present without anything truly tangible tying them to House Velaryon (What if they go tell their parents everything?) So they'll wait until they have a few kids like you said but the damage is done in terms of the breach of trust. Even if they come over and see the writing on the wall, it doesn't change that their husbands lied to them and intentionally schemed to trap them in a house that's going to go to war with their family instead of them being able to make that choice of their own free will. All around it's pretty fucked up for everyone. That's what a Dance does I guess.

WardforAll

While its a difficult decision I think lying to Baela and Rhaena is a mistake and unrealistic. Letting them live in the bliss of ignorance while the Dance is over their heads is demeaning to them and I doubt Jace and his Family are gonna be able to hide their frayed relations with the Targaryen’s especially when they start expanding again. I think at some point after their first few kids they need to be sat down and told the situation and shown that the Velaryons made every attempt at peace. They already acknowledged their parents are messed up and once the hear what happened between Aegon and Laena and maybe the dragon dreams they’re smart enough to see the writing on the wall.

Tertius711

Glad you liked the discussion. Stay tuned for the wars! Alright, fair point. What is your suggestion for the name of the state then? What about Triune? That's an alternate name I came up with. The Triune of Tyrosh, Lys, and Myr. That work?

Robin

Great discussion between Laena and Daeron. I really really don't like Triunal. The unal looks to much like anal and it also kinda sounds like urinal. Can't wait for all the wars, it's going to be very exciting!
