Tertius711

A lot of people know the planet is round. But with how much of it is unknown. Wouldn't be practical to do this. It would be more likely that they send someone to beat the Redwynes at circumnavigating if they're close to it already. Though the Saffron Straits and Shadow Lands may be concerning to get past.

Great Ender

Once house Velaryon learns of this great expedition, it might behoove them to send their own expedition to follow all the way around essos . Wait at the edge for anyone that makes it through the summer sea. But it can also just be pushed as a new expansion of essos trade route . Our Corleys obviously knows the planet is round :)

Tertius711

Actually I am of the opinion that there isn't another continent but rather the eastern coast of Essos. That being said, Yi Ti is only the midway point of Essos per calculations.

Great Ender

Maybe there is not a new continent at all. Just large ocean. That leads back to YiTi , nothing says Planetos had to be like earth. 🌍 if anything it’s looking like late Pangea earth. All land clustered in one side of the planet. The western route to YiTi could be soo long that provisions run out before they find any land . Or .. the Verlerions in YiTi learn of this and the Navy is sent to eradicate the exploration ships before they report back to Westeros .

Tertius711

A tedious process but not one that’s impossible or dangerous to achieve.

Thomas Terracciano

I was about to say that's gonna be incredibly rough but then I remembered their dragons so it will just be pretty rough lol

Tertius711

That would be good yes

Thomas Terracciano

So then they must eradicate the dothraki?

Tertius711

Nope. They won't. The same reason why the Ottomans didn't benefit from the discovery of the Americas. They're so far away they can't do anything with the new continent while the Western Alliance on the coast of the Sunset Sea would be in the perfect position to exploit and explore and colonize the new continent. House Velaryon's future is in the east, not the west.

Thomas Terracciano

Surely the Velaryons too would benefit from finding a new continent?

Tertius711

Why would they? That's doing all the work for the Western Alliance given they're the ones who stand to benefit from said western continent, not the Velaryons.

Thomas Terracciano

I don't like the idea of the western alliance finding a new continent for themselves. Have the Velaryons also thought of searching for a new continent in the West?

Tertius711

It never left :)

Amerdism

How long was that LOTR quite stuck in your head? :)

Tertius711

Perhaps they will one day, especially as Jaehaerys gets further and further away from living memory.

Tariel Khalvashi

Will the Targaryens ever admit that Jaehaerys did wrong and because of his actions doomed his own family to suffering and war?

Tertius711

Just 3 more chapters till the Dance Arc starts! Let's see about that lesson of humility.

Tariel Khalvashi

The Dance is coming!!! I hope the Velaryons teach the Targaryens a lesson in humility. And this family of proud people with delusions of grandeur will in the future curse the day when the “great” King Jaehaerys started this war with his pettiness.

Tertius711

Oh it is definitely something that will be touched on going forward.

Kolek

I still get nervous at the very thought of the war ending with the Targaryens still in possession of dragons. Considering how quickly the Velaryons went from having only 1 dragon to outnumbering the Targaryens, it feels like a very big risk.

Tertius711

Glad you liked it! And yeah that is indeed the overall vibe, the other parties have no skin in the game for the most part compared to the canon Dance where it was a succession war. Well we'll see. Long term the Velaryon allies in Westeros are in a tough spot. So long as the Targaryens have dragons, they can't be forced to sign a Magna Carta. We'll see about those Sunset Sea expeditions. Not impossible. The Dance of the Dragons and how it was fought will be the talk of history for a long time.

Tertius711

They are. Next chapter is a Baela/Viserra POV, the last before the Dance, so I will cover the final Velaryon update before the war.

Tertius711

Oh for sure the Velaryons have been preparing for years and years. They are like the Batman meme.

Tertius711

Well we shall see! Stay tuned.

Tertius711

It depends how the war goes. Not to mention, you can dictate whatever but in the long term leaving the Royce-Arryns under Targaryen vassalage is not going to end well.

Tertius711

Ah thanks, fixed. It's not a major focus but it will be addressed eventually, even if only in the epilogue, so stay tuned!

Tertius711

You're welcome!

Revan

Thanks for the great update.

Revan

Feel like the younger generation should be drilling flight formations, group co ops, and blitz maneuvers everyday. Almost like an elite squadron.

Robin

"none other than Lady Irina’s brother Vaemond." I think that's Lady Irina's uncle Vaemond. I'm very excited to learn more about what's west of Westeros!

Kolek

We know the Velaryons are aiming for independence, but how likely is it for them to decimate the Arryn-Mooton (who would be fighting them) alliance and dictate the rise of the Arryn-Royce as part of the peace terms? I imagine that a peerage would be a poor consolation for them if they lose their lands and their claim to the Vale.

Jack K

As far as the outcomes the western faction (and sort of the others) discussed. I’m pretty sure the Velaryons would take the “victory” of taking the stepstones, losing driftmark and the hook (all their Westeros specific territories that I believe they’ve drained of everything beyond the bare minimum) and doing their best to save as many of their Westerosi supporters by taking them into exile and making them peers. Obviously securing their independence in the process.

Tushar Srivastav

Velaryon are clearly the most prepared out of two. They cleary have a more potent fire work at their disposal i.e their dragon and fire magic The dragon well they are at disadvantage due to size but with training and armor the difference will not be as great as it could be . I would even say it could be 60:40 in the favour of tyg. Fire magic and other magic is 100:0 in their favour. Tyg are already in huge disadvantage but seem to be to stupid to realize it.

Nice update, thoroughly showing situation, moods and plans of main sub-players of whole upcoming party :) Overall vibe I've felt from all POVs concerning upcoming Dance was like "Fight and slaughter each other, if you want, but f...ing leave us out of this !!!!" - and it's hard to not agree with them ;) I've a feeling though that while Velaryons won't insist too much, Targaryens will do sth completely opposite..... If Mooton-Arryn family decide to use cover of Dance to eliminate their mutinous vassals, I guess that that'll be a job for Velaryon Land Forces. Western Alliance is also in quite a dilemma ;) Idea to sail to the West is interesting - it'd be ironic if expedition found sth and returned AFTER the Dance is done :) Seriously, discontent with Targs rules was to be expected. It's quite possible that would Rhaenys loose the Dance, still loyal nobles will force sth like MAGNA CARTA on her - and she'll be forced to sign it ;) in the end, some thought - how big is the chance, that in few hundred or thousand years someone in your Westeros will write and publish some thesis like "Vhagar on Six, or how Dance of Dragons influenced modern air combat" ? :)

Tertius711

Glad I was able to deliver! Thanks!

Silveraith

Awesome, I've been waiting for what feels like forever to see how everyone else was reacting to the upcoming war of dragons. Excellent job Tertius.

Tertius711

To be fair it has been four years since the last chapter/Targaryen POV so the situation has had even more time to develop. But also yeah, the Targaryens are really high on their own hype/copium right now and they've also become very insular and paranoid so they do not really pay attention to the opinions of their vassals as much as they should these days.

Omar

Seems like everyone but Targaryens are convinced that a devastating war is incoming
